That looks like neoprene, a form of uncured rubber. yes WD-40 will cut it, so will gasoline.

Magnets don`t stick to ferro snares either. That throw don`t belong on a Teardrop shell but it`s there and it`s factory. Is it heavy ?

Are you sure it`s Brass and not Ferro Manganese (Manganese, steel, ) Nickle, copper, chrome plated. SONOR does three phase plating.

Looks like a late 60`s Teardrop. Could be an early Swinger,(ordered) but I think it`s Teardrop because of the damper knob.
