Never mind.
Did I get a deal or not?
It looks to be a nice one, you paid about an average price from what I have tracked on ebay.very nice drum!
Looks like a fair price to me. You should emjoy playing this guy.
I think you got a decent deal just as long you did not get hosed on shipping. those snare sound great. enjoy playing itD' Drummer

That's about average price for a drum in average condition like that. That is one of the early CBS era drums if I'm not mistaken, due to the later style bottom hoop and snare bridge. It does look like it has some minor rust/corrosion on it in some places, but once you get that cleaned up it should be a nice looking drum. They all sound wonderful to my ears, so you won't be disappointed on that aspect.
No.
You did not.
The drum, in my opinion, from observing the pics in the auction, appears to have been cleaned with steel wool. At least from some of the pics, thats my honest assessment. It was made in 1975. CBS era began in late 1966 after the sale of Rogers to CBS by Strauss. Thusly, Dayton drums are CBS era Rogers. Incorrect knob on the dampener.

Well thanks for busting my bubble ploughman!
As far as the incorrect knob on the dampener, what do I care? I'm not a "perfectionist" when it comes to vintage drums and wonder if it's correct right down to the tension rods or dampener. It's not like it's a museum piece.
Thanks to all the others but I have had enough of the perfectionist in this forum!
No need to reply, I'm through with this forum.
Geez...... I guess when some people don't hear what they want to hear.....
Oh well........
"did I get a deal or not"
"nice one ... Average price"
"fair price"
"decent deal"
"about average"
"no"
... and then the phloub blows a gasket.
Good riddance to bad rubbish. You would have locked horns with someone on this forum with that attitude. Your departure saved us all from having a very heated run-in, no doubt. Thank you very much for being so considerate.
I only said... in my opinion.... could be I am wrong. Kudos to you if I am wrong. But, you did ask for opinions. Based on what I see......teeny tiny line scratches in the finish..... says STEEL WOOL. I never mentioned the rust on the rims. It will still play like a 700 dollar Dynasonic that has sat in the original packing in a closet for 35 years and looks like brand new. Now, I think the seller knows better, and if it really shows to have been cleaned with steel wool once you get it......you have a legitimate claim. The seller is a "drum shop." And that is whose chain you need to yank.
By the way, always read the REAL BIG FINE PRINT... like the closing sentence in the auction description.
"You won't find a better or more original Dynasonic snare drum than this one. Personally reconditioned inside and out. Cleaned and polished and lubricated (T rods). ALL ORIGINAL!!!! Yes muffler, strainer, snare set, snare bridge, hoops, lugs, T rods -everything as original except heads which are very decent. Serial number 54443 places this drum in 1967 with elongated clock watch strainer and Rogers script metal logo (see photo). Very clean only minor pitting and light rust on some hardware pieces. Everything operational and sounding GREAT!. 14x5 COB shell with no dings, dents or heavy scratches. This is a 10 lug drum with no alterations or modifications . Real player's drum."
