Am I the only one who goes on ebay and feels a twinge of sadness every time I see someone selling each drum of some great old 50's or 60's kit separately? That drum set belongs together! heathens!!! Your thoughts?

As a vintage drum dealer/collocter 30 years+ Ebay seller for 7 years.. It's a SIN to brake up a vintage set or take apart a vintage drum--like many Ebayers do--to sell the parts then the shell....Mikey

Heare, heare!!! I am another one that sees this as a sin. If the shell is damaged, go for it. If the kit is complete, leave it be. I don't care about the thoughts of "it makes business sense"...it does not make good business sense, or the factories would sell them that way, not as "sets"....

Yes. We are somewhat isolated in our collective passion for vintage drums in comparison to someone who owns a pawn shop or is clearing out the attic after 40 years. The fact is that most people out in the world do not care one little bit about drums.

But it is hard for someone who is close to drums/drumming to see the disintegration of drum sets that have otherwise managed to stay together for all those years.

Anecdote: I had a garage sale once a few years ago to try and rid myself of some of the inherited 'junk' I got when I bought this old 'fixer upper' house (aka "The Money Pit"). There was a cool old single bed and box spring that had been taking up space. A nice lady came along and said, "OH! I LOVE that bed! I'll take it!" Great! Then, she proceeded to take the frame and leave the box spring. I said, "Don't forget the box spring!" to which she replied, "I don't want that. I don't have room for that!" DOH!

So, what had been a nice old set of frame and box spring had come to their fork in the road thanks to my garage sale. I ended up paying the dump to allow me to dump the box spring -which, of course, was good for no one without the frame. Someone might look at that and say, "You should have insisted that she take both." But, in the end, I wanted the money and didn't give a hoot about keeping the frame and spring together. That's what happens with many old drum sets, too.

it is certainly a sin.

if i had the money i would just buy all those and put the kit back together.

...then hug it and tell it everything will be ok...

What's worse is many people are taking lugs, rims and mufflers off of vintage drums and selling them individually. I get tired of everything vintage on ebay is "RARE"

This greedy parctice gets my bells in a bunch. Do people also disect vintage Strats or Les Pauls to do the same (probably not) thing? I did send a question to a seller a long time ago asking why. However, no surprise to me, I didn't get a reply. Doosh!

They can sell them for more than if they kept it together.
