Gonna guess those are a little newer - have the round tom mounts, they definately look much more silver than mine (even under the hardware where it's not faded, mine look much more pale?) My 16 and 18 are both floor toms, your 16 (assuming 16?) appears to be a mounted tom? Pretty set though, and some of the hardware is good to see, gives me a visual idea of what I should be looking for. Anyone have a source for the floor tom leg mounts? Most I've found are like 1.5" or 1.75"? between screwmounts, these are closer to 2.25 if I remember correctly? Most were damaged, and the remainder are currently in use on my "daily driver" (mutt) set - holding my 20" Slingerland off the floor (it had a wider hole spacing yet, but was already damaged enough that I wasn't worried about modifying it to fit)

I answered an add in 1977 for a sale on custom-built Wellington drums. A shop in Salt Lake city. Said they had licensed the technology to make the fiber/wood/shells... they would add wellington heads and then add Pearl hardware to make the finished product. Not a super high end product, but better than a standard kit. Mine was a smoky titanium finish. Played it a few years and then passed it on to other drummers in the family... not sure where it ended up.

I just purchased a set of Wellington "Custom Built Drums" off craigslist. It has all the hardware and is just missing a few lugs. The shells have a sticker on the inside that reads "Tawana : A sound projecting drum shell" (see image). The shells have Wellington all over them inside and out. It is a great sounding set. Anyway, I too see very little info on these drums online. If anyone has anything to add on my set I would love to read it. I googled Tawana and did not receive one relavent result. Maybe there were only 3 sets made and me and oldsmagnet have 2 :-)

kellyj, do you still have the set of '81 Silver Silk Pearls? I had a set EXACTLY like it until the Joplin tornado hit a couple weeks ago. Decided to get out on the internet & start searching & came across this thread. I would be interested in buying them if you were considering selling them.

Anyone ever heard of these things? Online information is virtually non-existant. They're wood/fiberglass - most agree the hardware looks to be older Pearl stuff.

A bit of background...

Wellingtons were "custom" made by a guy named Jack Oldham during the 1970s in the Salt Lake City area--"Wellington" supposedly being his middle name. BTW, he's been deceased for about 20 years.

IIRC, he bought Pearl shells & hardware and put his badges on them. The vast majority of his kits were wood/fiberglass. At the same time, Pearl also offered w/f kits, hence the similarity. Apparently, his idea was to bypass the manufacturing process, re-brand Pearl drums, and make a larger profit. My personal experience with him was not good, so the less said, the better.

IMO, if Wellington drums have collector value, it's probably more due to their unique branding rather than any intrinsic sound quality--they're 70s vintage Pearls with a different sticker. Hope yours sound good.

Actually, I got really lucky with the tornado. I lived there from 2000-2007, got married & moved to Tulsa, OK. Didn't have room for the drums in our house, so a buddy was storing them for me, and they got hit. Going back & seeing the devastation, I can't complain about losing a drum set.

My understanding of Wellingtons is they are nothing more than another "stencil". Just re-badged Pearl wood/fiberglass shells that were licensed by Pearl to be called Wellington Custom, that is what a stencil is, a licensed copy, nothing more.That is how all stencils are sold.
