1965 Leedy Green Sparkle question Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

I'm looking to sell the aforementioned kit, but I was curious to see if it was anything special or what I might be able to get for it first. It's a 4 piece, left-handed kit, though I don't have the mounting bracket for the tom (I'm right handed and use a RIMS mount with it). 14" snare, 12" and 16" toms, and 20" bass.

The floor tom is non-matching with the rest of the kit; it is stamped March of 1966 and the rest is September of '65. Bass hoops are somewhat beat up; the green sparkle inlay is coming off of one of them. Also the floor tom's bottom rim is non-matching; it's one of the modern "stick-saver" variety.

I can take pics of any details if anyone needs them. Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum by the way,Pics of the kick would help, mounts, bass drum spurs, etc ,plus pics of all mounting hardware and close up of the snare throw and butt would help, and some history if you have any,a close up of the badges can help us see if they have been re wrapped. It does look like there is a left handed ride cymbal mount on the kick,is there a rail mount for the tom on the right? If they are original, with no extra holes drilled,I think they are worth as much as same period Slingerland,Sling owned Leedy at the time and people refer to these as Slingerleedy's.The kit and wrap look to be in great shape,That is why I am asking about re wrap.I love green sparkle and Leedy lugs so I am digging that kit for sure.I think Slings with a matching snare of that period could go for 800.00 + but I will defer to the more knowledgeable folk on this site.

Thanks! The only history I have is that I bought it from my HS jazz band director back in 1997 time frame. He was going to cut a hole in the top and mount a tom arm on it! Silly sax players! So I killed my measly savings and rescued it. Played it in a garage band in college for a year or two. The kit really isn't a good fit for me, but it was all I had.

Sadly, I've kind of drifted away from playing. Too much stuff going on at work and at home, and a one bedroom condo isn't conducive to playing without mufflers (which I hate). So I figure I should find the drums a new home where they'll do something besides collect dust and act as a shelf. If/when I get back into playing again I'll get a kit that doesn't require a Rube Goldberg apparatus to assemble.

Also forgot to mention: the snare had bearing edges recut 65/45 degrees about 10 years ago. The rest I had been meaning to do, but haven't, and are quite rounded off.

Anyhoo . . . pictures.

Hiya! Dont'cha love those Tama/Camco bass pedals? Just got one in a deal, and it's become my favorite....

I've got a Rogers Dayton set that's an identical twin, sizes, green sparkle, even has a rewrapped floor that's a decent match. I've picked up some other sets, and was thinking of trying to moving the Rogers. I'm thinking $500.00' s probably reasonable, after checking the current market. I'd have to call your's about the same. Great set, I'd love to play it, but realities are about that these days. I luv green sparkle! Gotten more comments then any other kit I've owned. And I've had a bunch of great ones...

Good luck, Bill D.
