Asking for information re sonor hilite. After my brother died I was left his 7 pce sonor hilite set complete with Zildjian cymbals and all equipment. I believe he bought them new and used them mostly for studio work. They have not been played regularly for years as his health deteriorated. They are white and appear to be in excellent condition. I have serial #s and pictures. It has been very difficult to get info re the hilite model, history, value, etc. Any info? Thanks

Post the pics here and you will get an honest evaluation. You have a high end German made kit that a lot of players will pay to get a hold of,but i suggest you start here first.Sorry to hear about your situation.

I'm very sorry for your loss! here's a link, this is the curator of the sonor museum, his name is Scott, he's a great guy and can tell you anything you need to know.

Thanks for the quick reply and condolences. The Sonor museum link is very helpful. The drums, as I measured them are: 22x20" bass, ser#5594; floor tom, 16x18", #865; tom,15x14,#10,595; tom 13x12",#3926; tom12x11",#5562; tom10x10"#11,261; snare, also white maple,14"x8", #3447. cymbals are: Zildjian K china boy,17"; Zild. K hi hat 13" (2); zild new beat hi hat 15' (2); Avedis Zild. custom crash 15", 16" 17", 18"; zild custom 20", two DW5000 double bass footpedals and all stands, fittings etc. They were set up when I had to go get them. I am working on the pictures. The drums are located in Connecticut. The local go to drum shop wanted a 30%commission without looking at them. The drum shop in Boston where my brother probably bought them is out of business and when I tracked down the replacement store they said they wouldn't want the drums on consignment because they weren't popular.
First photo more to follow
My condolences!
I had a similar Hilite set in red maple.
I guess the right size description of your drums are:
17x22, 17x16, 12x14, 11x13, 10x12 and 7x14.
The drums are some of the best, Sonor ever build and your drums look like they're in great shape.
Good luck with your sale.
Thanks, the cymbal stands are Pearl, the other components Sonor. The set is complete. What would be a rang for the price?
I've been looking for a white 15" tom for over half a year now. I'll send you a message. Gorgeous kit!
Your sizes are probably slighly wrong, it's probably:
22"x17" bass drum
10"x9" tom
12"x10" tom
13"x11" tom
15"x13" tom
16"x17" floor tom
14"x7" snare
You probably measured the full height, not just the height of the drum shell alone.
About prices:
I bought my white kit in 22-20-10-12-13-14-16 for 2400 dollar
I've been trying to sell a red maple Hilite in 22-12-16 for 900 dollar with no success yet.
A Dark Violet 22-12-16 kit just sold on the German ebay for about 850 dollar (quite cheap I think).
A white 22-12-13-16 on craigslist for 1300 dollar, here
Red maple kit, 22-8-12-13-15 with cases and some hardware, 1800 dollar, here
This was a White 22-10-12-14-16-14s kit for $1000, gone, probably sold, great price. You can still see the description and price when you search in google 'craigslist sonor hilite white'.
Thing is: Some buyers, like this one and this one try to get more for it than they would get for a Sonor Signature. The tom arms going through the shell is a no go for many, and the sonor guys seem to lean to Lites, Phonics and Signatures more. I love the look of Hilites with the tube lugs. They sound full, warm and punchy. I can work with the tom arms piercing the shell, but it does affect the sound.
If I were in the States I'd buy that kit from you. Now I hope you'll just let me have the 15" and maybe the 10" :)
Be careful when handling the drums with the heads off, the bearing edges are very easily damaged, as the maple used in these drums is very soft.
Thanks for the information. I would like to sell the set complete, but if I do not get any offers, I will part it out. All the prices seem low but maybe that is the economy I guess. I did measure the complete hight so I assume your dimensions are correct.
Hey, no problem.
How long do you want to wait for offers?
