Does the fact that they used this wrap for only one year (59) make the kits that much more valuable? I've got a bead on one and am trying to figure out if I'm going to pull the trigger. I'm awaiting more pics. It looks like there might have been a mount change out to more modern Slingerland (60's) hardware. The question stands, "Does the fact that they used the wrap for only one year (59) make the kits that much more valuable?" How much would it add to the value? We are talking a 20/12/14 with matching snare. Looks like it was one of the very first Modern Jazz kits ever made.
Slingerland 1959 Aqua Sparkle Pearl
I would be concerned about the changed tom mount, Is the asking price high??
Not sure if it is valuable but I think it is my favorite sparkle finish. I have never saw one in that finish in those sizes. Snag them!
I don't have all the details as of yet. I'm awaiting some pics. When I have all the details, I'll decide whether the asking is fair. I don't even have the details of the snare. I've seen the wrap is a match. Dunno what to expect for shell makeup or throwoff or what. I'll nail those down tomorrow. I'm after the rarity impact. Never seen one of these and it just seems interesting that the wrap was 59 and the Modern Jazz was 60. That's what perked my ears.
I would think yes but the mount chage might make it a wash. But hey, don't buy it because it's a rare finish, buy it because you like it! The finish is a bonus.

I like the finish. I love the sizes! It's not THE EXACT kit I'm searching out, but it shownuff is sweet. I think it might have been 'upgraded' to Rogers bass/tom mounts. I've kind of picked the brain of the seller and that's what I'm leaning towards believing. We'll see when the pics arrive tomorrow. It's in good shape ... other than the hardware changeout. I was just curious if the rarity of the kit would add any appreciable amount to the worth. I'll need that info when I 'cipher' up the offer. I'm trying out a new leaf - don't pay too much for a vintage kit. I've done pretty well over the past month. I'd like to keep it up.
I hear ya, save the jack for the ones you have to have not kinda want to have. There is one thing for sure...there will be another one show up next week that you like too!! LOL :)

This is a bit of a mindblower, but I just located ANOTHER aqua sparkle kit. This other one is a 22/12/14snare in pristine condition. It's got the unpainted brass badges and the bass is virgin (with clip on spurs). It will come with all kinds of cool hardware like shell mounted cymbal arms and epic bass pedal and hihat stand. It also comes with a very early 60's regular blue sparkle 14 floor. I'm getting so stoked! If these look good, I should do well. Still waiting on pics ... from both sellers! Man, ya gotta love the digital age.
Here's a couple of pics from the first offer kit. Talk about STRANGE hardware. What the heck is this all about??? Someone, please tell me what I'm looking at here.
Yipes...that wrap looks hella faded....is it !???
Cannot say I've ever seen that hardware in my life...I kinda LIKE it, though (although perhaps NOT on a vintage Slingy...)
Hmmm........
