Hi. Read somewhere that Rogers used jasper shells? Betwen what years did they use these?
My rogers got clevelandtags with 33141 and 32878 serial numbers, one of the drums doesnt have the tag left. Could anyone with the Rogers book do me a favour and find out what year these are from? And do they have jaspers?

Hmmm...I was always under the assumption that Rogers used Keller shells.....
There is a misconception that a Jasper shell equals Gretsch shell. The Gretsch m/g/m shell was just for Gretsch.

Yes. Rogers did use shells manufactured by Jasper Wood Products. According to Cook they used them for the earliest Ohio era drums. They gradually brought in Keller until they were eventually the sole supplier.

Nice! so everything pre-62 is jasper? Or did they use any other shells aswell?
All the Big R drums were Keller shells -no? Or, were the XP-8 shells in-house shells?
I thought the XP-8 shells were Yamaha shells.

Rogers changed to a three ply keller mpm shell in early 63. Beavertail lugs came out shortly thereafter. Around mid to late 64...early 65 they switched from the three ply keller to the five ply keller mpmpm shell and used that shell till the 9/72 drums. The 1973 catalogue shows a three ply shell. Again, supplied by keller. In 1975, with the advent of memrilock hardware, back to a five ply shell. In 1979, the XP8 Keller all maple eight ply shell. In 1982, Cataloge 1983, Rogers produced the XP 10 snare drums, Dynasonic and Superten, Ten Ply all maple, supplied by keller. That is all North American Rock Maple. No Asian maple.
