Anyone had any luck taking paint off of drum wrap without destroying the covering? If its possible what's the best way to go about it? Thanks.
Removing Paint From Drum Wrap?? Last viewed: 30 seconds ago
Have not tried it myself, but I sold a painted shell recentlhy and the buyer said Turtle Wax Heavy Scratch Remover got 2 of the panels all clean so far.
I had to remove gray paint from a gold sparkle wrapped bass drum. You can see the results here:

I just used a sanding sponge dampened with water. After sanding a bit of the paint away, I had to wipe the wet paint off with a rag. It took quite a while, but it was the only way I could be sure I wasn't hurting the 40 year old wrap with a chemical. There may be other safe ways to do this, but I wasn't sold on any of them at the time, so I went with this process.
I did this to a floor tom just recently. It was white marine pearl that had been spray painted black. I used 3m safest stripper,

I'm currently removing black gloss paint(don't know if it's oil or latex) off a MIJ black oyster 14"fl tom (which is for sale btw). This is NOT like an American Delmar wrap! Thinner and more delicate!I used Scrubs brand grafitti wipes which work well but a little slow. One side is abraisive, the other not.I also tried some mild paint stripper, not a "green" product but not as heavy duty as some of them, starts with a K.The rest of the paint on the can stripped off lol. That was a little quicker but still had to fine tune those areas with a wipe. Hope that helps.
A kent tom I bought recently had some white paint spilt on the Sparkle finish. I soaked the area in liquid dishwater detergent.....Dawn, most brands would probably do. I use Dawn to clean grunge off drum parts.
The paint softened and came right off - no damage to the finish.
I used Motsenblocker's Lift Off #5 (for latex paints) on painted Vistalites with good results. It has no odor and is a "green" product. Can be found at Wal Mart!! The other #'s strip away different things, #5 is for latex.

This stuff looks very promising. How do you think it would do on removing paint off of a clear wood finished shell? I've scraped some paint off under a lug and the clear coat (I'm guessing nitro cellulose lacquer based on it's age) over the maple exterior is intact. I want to strip the paint but save the original finish if possible...
You will just have to try it under a lug aand see. I left mine on 15 minutes, but you should experiment with it. Try a few minutes 1st and see what happens. Of course you can always re clear yours if you have to.
