butcher block wrap

Loading...

hey all

i'm new to the forums but i have a question for anyone who wants to chime in. why does it seem that the butcher block wrap is loathed by so many drummers?

i just acquired a 72 rogers (londoner i think) with the butcher block wrap and i personally think it looks incredible.

just curious i guess

p.s. if anyone can help me identify my kit completely let me know and i'll post pics.

thanks

Well....in my opinion, butcher block just looks fake. Its trying to simulate real wood with basically a counter top laminate. And an ugly one at that.....

I second that - it s just too reminiscent of '70's kitchen formica - funny that it has become rather - competitive - to acquire such drums nowadays CryBaby

Yes. I don't care for the look of it, either. But, again, you just never know what's going to happen. Maybe it will become a fad to like the things no one used to like. lol! It was countertop laminate material, after all! I know that all the Cortex finishes, I have seen, wear like iron compared to the other wrap materials. Usually, when a butcher block kit comes up, the finish is in pretty good shape -same goes for any of the Cortex finishes.

Butcher block wrap is drum kit security. Nobody would EVER steal that kit from you. I love it!

I always had a soft spot for the butcher blocks. I honestly don't know why. Maybe it goes back to Alice and Sam the butcher's love affair. Who knows... I just know that I kinda like it. It screams 70's acoustic. It's kinda like the tobacco fade from the later 70's. Love that warm woody look.

I never understood why one would wrap a WOOD drum in faux wood!???!

I never found any of the wood cortex finishes remotely good looking. When Ludwig (and other manufacturers) came out with stained and transparent lacquered finishes....now that was something to admire!

If you remember back in the day... it was simply amazing that they could make formica look "so much" like wood yet be resistant to scratching and marring.

I remember going to the lumber yard with my dad and he and I admiring these amazing new "wood" like finishes.

So.. I think it was more about a new product and a departure from the normal ... I mean why did I wear that fake sheep skin vest and marroon corduroy bell bottoms. :)

It looked like hell... but it was something new and different.

Those are my two favorites....in that order. Both excellent points and Laughing H. Butcher block is gross. I am not into it at all. That said...if I found a deal on a kit I would take it and make it shine!

Yup...you guessed it. I just plain like drums!

I never liked any of the fake woods. The Rogers were the worst of all.
