Question about vintage drum heads..

Loading...

Hi all ! Thanks for having me. First time poster, glad to be on the forums.

I'm extremely confused. My favorite drum sounds come from 1966 to 1969. I have old drums, but I'm not sure what heads I could put on them that would relate that sound. So I come here asking, what were the specs of the average remo head in 1967? What's the closest thing I can buy today to what would be a head from 1967, 1968?

I ask because in all of my research, I've become quite confused. There are a million different options, a million different opinions...

I'm talking about the entire kit, snare, and heads for the toms and bass drum. I've got a '60s japanese kit with a 1976 Supraphonic snare. Thanks a lot.

Beautiful kit and a great question.  I'd stick to single ply coated head.  As far as brand goes that's a personal preference.  I like evans G1's but Remo Ambassadors are great too.  Tuning is very important and will depend on the style of music you are playing.  What sound are you looking for?  Which drummers do you enjoy?
