After losing my mother this past October I decided that I wanted to put together some sort of "tribute drum" to my parents, who got me started in drumming back in the early '60s in our home in Detroit. My dad, a WWII vet, had passed back in 2006. One of my favorite pics of them was taken at a club, while my dad was serving in the Navy. I thought I'd use that pic as the bass drum head and put together a WWII-themed drum. I had purchased a severely abused (enough holes to resemble swiss cheese!) vintage Ludwig shell some time ago and thought it would be the perfect candidate for this mini-project. I just thought I'd share a few pics of the end item. I always liked the look of double cowbells (lol). I plan on replacing the metal hoops currently on the shell with some wooden ones down the road. Anyway, one less item on the ol' "bucket list" (lol)! Happy Easter everyone!

BEAUTIFUL job on this!, and a fabulous tribute! My dad was also Navy! ... WWII in the Pacific on board the USS Ranger which was indeed, a carrier. WHEN I could get him to open up and talk about it .. which was not often .. WOW .. don't think on my best day I could have done what he, your dad, both Mark's dad, and anybody else that was there, did. BEAUTIFUL job Gary!

That's pretty cool. Your dad resembles Frank Sinatra.
This Seabee vet has the greatest respect for vets like your dad and his generation.
