Precision Instruments 5 Pc

Anyone know much about these drums? I found an old archived forum post on here and in the thread someone stated Precision Instruments may be Precision Drum Co of NY, but never said definitively as their current badges dont match this badge.

Any info would help i.e. if they look quality. Thanks in advanced.

Hello fwiw... and Welcome to the forum!

I looked up that post from years back. Again, no definitive answer. However, knowing what I now know about these drums, I'd say they are MIT (Made In Taiwan), but with maple shells. The interior of the kit you show does seem to be maple, at least on the interior ply. Certainly doesn't look like cheap mahogany or basswood, although inner plies could be mahogany or poplar. I can at least say that this kit has nothing to do with Precision Drum Company! Probably just a name picked out by a US importer.

Thanks for the quick responses.

@idrum4fun yeah they didn't seem overly cheap to me, but my experience with drums is pretty limited.

Here is a close up of the badge @greenglass

Thanks again

I'd say these are built in a factory in China that gives the option of customizing hardware, badges and wraps. The hardware is reminiscent of Sigler Custom Classic and early 2000's Gretsch Catalinas.

I've been doing business with Precision drums for decades. The custom drums that Precision makes in New York use Keller shells and Delmar wraps, quality materials inside and out. The drums in the photos look like one of those Taiwanese knock-offs using the name Precision. I'm pretty sure they have nothing to do with the US outfit.

Too many great drums to list here!
