There was a comment "The bracket shouldn`t be there in 59 with clip hoops." Just to clarify these are 1949 not 1959 drums. And there has been some debate about holes and clips so what I can tell you is these drums were purchased in 1949 and played by my father in law till his illness and he passed in 1985. They were stored away since then in an upstairs closet not in basement or anywhere humid. We took good care of them. To the best of my and my wife's knowledge he never had anything done to them or altered them they are original. I looked at the holes I think you are referring to and they are spaced perfectly so I think they are factory drilled Possibly to hook brackets on and fasten drums together. We are asking questions and asking for help and doing our best to represent these drums honestly. Her dad was a drum lover and loved playing them. If there are any questions please ask and if you want specific pictures I can take pics of anything you want. Thanks for all you folks time and the posts and comments and help.

The 3 holes are probably tone control because of their location. You came to the right place,...I only want you to know what you have,..There is a chance I`m wrong but so what, you will leave knowing what you have. I have never seen a factory bracket go out with a tom-tom that old. I looked at cats but they all have hoop mounted. Weather I`m right or wrong, we find out.

Yes mine has a bass clamp mount but I use a stand.

I am not an expert in Leedy hardware either so wasn't sure on the slide mount in that era and the 3 top and bottom holes on the tom either. Hoping someone would chime in that might have more insight.

I was thinking tone controls also but didn't think they had them in that era also.

Actually just looked at mine and it does have a tone control. So missing the tone controls.

We are getting there slowly.

I can`t see knobs in the cats but we wouldn`t anyway, Right? I didn`t think the internal tone control was done by Leedy either.

my tom has 1 tone control not a double.

Can see it in the picture on page 1 of this thread.

Will have to take a better look at my tom and compare.

I see it, Is your BD a 24 ?

That should leave a center shaft hole and two mount fasteners.

OK folks appreciate all your help.

Just wanted to say I may have been, no I was presumptive that these drums are perfectly original.

May have had some things done to them I don't know I wasn't with them all that time and we all know things this old could have had a little of this and a little of that done over the years.

Best thing is to see them live I know but this is the next best thing.

Let me say I defer to you folks you know what is what.

Thanks again.

The shell mounted tom holder could have been installed after the drums arrived from the factory. Then again, who are we to say that it could not have been installed at the Leedy factory per the buyer's request? The two tone controls could have also been part of the original order placed with the factory. Modifications like these must have also been commonplace for selling dealers to do for their customers.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.
