Ludwig Rockers -- "Dazed & Confused"! Last viewed: 23 minutes ago

The more research I do on Ludwig's Rockers' series, the more confused I become. Then again, I did just hit the big 6-5 the other day so, perhaps, "the old age thing" is simply taking over. Anyway, I've got a few direct questions regarding a kit that I'd love you experts to weigh in on, if you'd be so kind. Here goes:

Could there possibly be such an animal as a Ludwig Rockers kit (22/12/13/16) from 1976 with matching snare with the following characteristics:

-- Blue/Olive badges with serial numbers;

-- Granitone interiors;

-- Ludwig Standard lugs;

-- Walnut Cortex wrap (#2386);

-- 10 lug bass drum with wooden hoops; and

-- "rounded" spurs.

The kit allegedly came with a Speed King pedal.

Is this actually a "Rockers" kit or possibly something else? Any and all "words of wisdom" would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and your help!Bowing

Everything could be possible for that year except I don't know about Granitone at this point.I would say if it was around 1982 it might well be a Standard kit that was sent out with a speed king and rounded corner B/O badges. Rockers where made when they switched to Monroe Factory as far as I know in 1984. Are you sure it is a 1976 set?

Rockers have Granitone and clear interiors, with standard and classic lugs.

I owned a set that had the classic lugs, with granitone interiors.. No blue /olive for

Rockers, only older "pointy corner" black/white badges, with and without serial numbers..

4 ply toms and 6 ply bass drums.. Rockers were offered in only a few finishes, but walnut cortex wasn't one of them..

No 10 lug bass drums with wooden hoops..From what i know, 22"with wood hoops always had 8 lugs, as did mine..

Only mine had steel hoops..

Rocker spurs were telescoping and "hide away" straight spurs.. No classic curved spurs, but you never know,

as Ludwig was known for their many insignificant inconsistencies..

Thanks for your input, Wayne. The current owner claims that it's a '76 kit. I also know that the walnut cortex wrap was offered at that time. I don't know about '84.

I just now found out that the snare drum that's with the kit is a 10-lug, also with a B/O badge.

As I originally stated, the more research I do on Rockers, the less I seem to know about them.:confused:

Former owner of a Rockers kit here.

I'm pretty sure but not 100% certain that any Rockers kit with standard lugs would NOT be from the 1970s. And I agree - Rockers were NOT offered with walnut cortex. Yours may be a rewrap.

Though all Rockers with black and white badge were made in the USA, no matter what era.

Pics would definitely help, and can determine exactly what you have..I'm assuming that you think they're Rockers

drums because of the drum heads ? Ludwig made clear and clear silver dot drum heads that were named

"Rockers", and these heads came standard with classic maple kits, as well as Rocker kits..

This was just a name for the heads that were primarily used by "rock" drummers,

known for their durability,brightness and attack, (which rock drummers look for)

much like the original Remo Black Dot heads..I believe you can still order these

heads from Ludwig, but i can't be sure..Here's a link from vintagedrumguide.com
