What's the general info on Ludwig cutting snare beds on 1960's Super Classic snares (and Jazz Fests)?

I have a pre-serial Super Classic with cut beds & just want to know history.

Thank you!

If I had one, I'd pull the wires and snare-side head, and snap a pic of the bed for you (c'mon guys).

Are you looking to replicate that particular bed on a new build snare?

Thanks Ron.

Just wanting to know when they were cut. Bought a pre-serial Super Classic which has them & just want to make sure it isn't after-market is all.

Can't believe no one here has anything to say @ beds ....

Afraid this site's been looking a whole lot like a bragging-@-what-I-bought centerfold site than what it has been in the past : a place to ask these questions vintage nuts love talking about.

Or maybe I'm being ignored because I'm not shy about stating the above.

Whatever

The general info is: Snare beds are on al Ludwig wood drums in the late 50's as far as I've ever heard....

What do you wish to know about the snare beds?

I believe up until earl sixty's gary

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Thank you both very much.

BEC : only want to know that they're supposed to be on pre-serial Super C's. That the one I just bought wasn't modded. Since pre-serial = 1960-63 would it be the case that the beds were cut by prior owner???

Guess I should take pics ...

Looks right.

Did they stop cutting snare beds at some point? My understanding is they are kind of necessary. I know the metal shells have very gradual beds that you can barely see. Not something I personally pay much attention to but the ones in your picture do look like mine on a similar drum.

From mlayton

Snare beds on lots of 60's drums seem to be cut much deeper.

K.O. = being necessary is my understanding, too.

Mike = it's been a while since I've had another snare w/ beds & these seem shallower to me too; but they also seem correct.

Thanks all.

This was an ebay purchase & just want to cover all the bases & make sure I didn't get hoodwinked,
