1969 Dynasonic WMP on eBay Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

Loading...

News Flash!!

The auction was ended and the drum relisted. Ebay auction number 361922079617

Here's new info Richard has to say... “This drum has attracted some controversy. It is a factory original Dynasonic, but the top and bottom bearing edges have been crudely filed and slightly reshaped. See pictures 11 and 12 for close-up photos. Also, the single seam for the white pearl finish, is just slightly off center. I have re-listed this drum at a low, no-reserve price. This is your chance to buy a genuine Rogers wooden Dynasonic snare drum at a great price!”

New pictures attached.

I'm going to bid just to get things started!

Hey idrum4fun, how did you miss those "nit picking" details? You must be slipping. Just kidding, I hope you get it.

Hey slingerfan!

I think Richard King should take the blame on this one, as he never mentioned this issue in the original auction. Sure am glad he took it apart and snapped those pictures! As for me getting that snare, it's unlikely, as I only bid $200!! I still think it will sell for a good price, just not as much now due that little "issue"!

I consider those new details to be quite important in terms of price, but I would actually be surprised if that drum isn't completely factory original. I've seen a lot of poor edges on Rogers drums, and maybe more in the Fullerton era, but also plenty in the other eras too. I don't think we should be hesitant to correct drums that need it either. After all, these guys were all going for production targets back then. I've seen really bad edges from every company. Think about the misshapen shells on 60's Ludwigs! So if a drum needs a fix, do it, and you'll still have a great drum. There are firms who do incredible work on edges, like Chris Heuer in LA, and from what I have been told Precision Drum Company in NY.

So, if I wanted/needed a WMP Dynasonic, I wouldn't hesitate to pay a fair price for this one (and have done so on several occasions). I've paid $1000, $1700 and $2500 over the last 5 years or so. The highest being for one that matched my catalog kit. Then I sold it for even more because there was someone out there that seemed to want it more than me and because my catalog kit is actually shown with a COB Dynasonic. Way back in the 90's I paid about the same amounts. I've only gotten one wooden Dynasonic for $1 back around 1995, but all the chrome was toast. I had to donate a $100 COB unit to get the chrome corrected and only got $50 for the COB unit afterwards. LoL

I say, if you like it, bid at least what TommyP is recommending.

Whomever did that sanding job - or whatever that is - looks like they didn't care too much about what they were doing. Even if it was factory (and there's no way to tell) makes this a molested Dyna & it's no longer that special collector piece.

Reminds me of that game hot-potato.

Dan:

You could be correct about that ragged, filed edge being factory original. The filing ridges and angle look factory. I've seen similar examples online which confirm that some assembly workers were a little too aggressive filing down the seam overlap, and it's usually at the seam overlap where we see this ragged edging...

Maybe it's not pretty with the hoops off, but it's still a WMP Dyna. Worth bidding a few bucks just to see what happens.

Snaremania: Is that 6.5 Cleveland WMP Dyna yours? Absolutely beautiful! A very rare bird indeed. Makes me nervous just looking at it balancing on the deck railing.

I would expect that to end up being a good buy, especially if you happen to have the WMP set to go along with it. I was tempted up to about $1000, but I have a couple already and no WMP sets. Off it goes and hopefully to a member!

Dan!

I was also tempted to bid about $1100, but forgot about the auction until 8:05pm. Even at the final price, I really feel that the buyer got a good deal!
