Ludwig Super Sensitive 6 1/2 Last viewed: 10 hours ago

Loading...

Hey Guys,

Just picked up this Super Sensitive today. This is my first Super Sensitive.

By the serial number and badge, it looks to be about a 78 or 79?

Haven't gone through the "what is the shell made of" detective work yet.

It seems to be in great condition for being almost 40 with next to no pitting. Not really sure if what I see are a couple of very small pits or just nicks.

It is having an issue with dropping the snares though. The ends of the snares drop with the throw off mechanism but the snare wires themselves hit the bottom of the hole in the rim (on both sides) and seem to bend back up onto the head. It actually isn't a bad sound, kind of like having a loose snare setting but it isn't right. Any ideas on how to go about adjusting it?

Thanks,

Wes

You need a bottom hoop with a 'drop gate.' It's an enlarged snare opening in the hoop. Somebody may have swapped out the original hoop for a regular one with a standard gate.

Too many great drums to list here!

OK. Thank you for the help!

Makes me wonder what else might not be original. The gentleman I bought it from said he had to add the snare guards as they were missing when he bought it.

Maybe one of these pictures of the bottom hoop shows well enough if it looks correct or not?

Looks like you have the right hoop with the drop gate. You should try using a snare side head with a shallow collar. This will keep the rim gates from getting in the way of the snares when disengaged. The Ludwig C1114 Weather Master 14-Inch Clear X-Thin Bottom Snare Side Resonant head has a shallow collar and also Remo makes an Ambassador Clear Snare Side No Collar. Hope that helps!

The March 8th. release of the new Remo heads are supposed to have a smaller collar. Have not been able to find Ludwig C1114 for awhile. They were at Wallmart which I refuse to buy from and then gone. Not on DFD site for quite some time.

Hope you get all sorted. Nice snare.

Nothing special here but I like them.

Ok guys. I have a ludwig snare side head as suggested to correct the dropping of the snares issue.

At some point someone removed the ludwig tag and put it back on or another that isn't original. Is there a way to tell? Someone trying to pass it off as a blue/olive pointed when it was something else? Or maybe it was bent and someone took it off the straighten it out if the points caught on something and bent?

Here is a picture of the tag inside and out.

Also another picture of the interior to see if those who know super sensitives can tell if anything looks incorrect. The bolts on the support brackets for the snare mechanisms have 2 washers and the heads of the bolts do not have a "bullseye" type of mark as the ones for the lugs do.

Any thoughts if this snare doesn't look authentic?

Thanks!

The grommet on that drum has been removed and replaced. Whether someone swapped out a badge or not there's no way to tell, but the grommet and badge have definitely been removed and replaced for "some reason."

Not a drum that is in original factory-made condition. Somebody messed with it for reasons I cannot explain.
