Ya, I told him if I decide to sell or trade, he'd have first shot. But, it's a great kit to gig with and I can leave my WFL in the rehearsal room.

... which is a very wise thing to do Johnny! ORIGINAL vintage WMP, well ... she no like sun light or UV! You don't actually see it happening, but one day you go to uncase them and ... BAM! Super yellowed. So much so they need to be called YMP! Unfortunately I learned this the hard way as I did EXACTLY that to a near mint set of 1966 Rogers Buddy Rich Headliner's in WMP. I still have the drums and they play/sound GREAT! ... but they are like REAL yellow now. SIGH.

How did that happen if they were in cases?

Because they came OUT of the cases so I could gig on 'em! At the time, which was easily 15 years ago anyway, these were my main gigging set and I had no idea as to the damage UV would cause with the older pyralin pearls, WMP being probably the worst. In the summer months I play a LOT of outdoor venues, and well ... you can guess the rest. Again, you don't really SEE it happening. It sneaks up on you, and it does take time for the damage to show. Anyway, lesson learned there. So, with my 1950 WFL Buddy Rich Classic's, I NEVER gigged those outside, and there was no issue! They stayed right where they were with regard to yellowing of the WMP, and I had those for years. Today, WMP wrap is UV STABLE!, so this is no longer an issue. For a lot of guys that own vintage WMP .. ( and that's ALL I own outside of some COW and COF where applicable for BR ) .. you just don't want to subject the wrap to lots of sunlite, and/or UV in general... within reason of course. Thing for me is, I play/gig ALL my drums/sets, as that's half the joy of owning them. But now, I am better armed with information on some of the issues that "can" happen. In this case, lesson learned the hard way! 15/20 years ago though, the vintage drum collecting/hobby was a relatively "new thing", so there was a learning curve!

Well, that makes sense, I wasn't sure what you meant when you said you took them out of their cases. We play some outdoor gigs, but one is in the evening and the other place we play has a big roof. I'll use the Rogers for those and the WFL occasionally for indoor gigs. They are too nice just to sit in the rehearsal room all the time. I have to play them out once in a while and I'm always careful with my drums.

Agreed! ... and I'm glad you DO play them! So many guys say to me, are you crazy??!! Why are you gigging on those Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity's? ... or the WFL's ... or the Fibes ... etc. I always say that they were built to BE PLAYED! The gigs/venues I play aren't going to put any of these drums in harms way , although for sure there are venues/clubs that could. So for those select few, I suspect one would take out a set where it would be less of a concern. Sounds like you have a fine handle on the care and feeding of your WFL WMP's! I gigged mine too!, but NEVER in sun or broad daylight, and they stayed exactly as the day I got 'em!

Mine doesn't have the ride cymbal mount, only the splash mount. Is yours a 22 or 24" kick?

9X13

16X16

16X16

Wow, that was one cool set of Ludwig BRs Tommy.

Nice ones you have there too Mark. Very vintage looking. I'd have to get a long spade to move that ride into a better position. It's like the Rogers BR Celebrity or Starlighters and Cozy Coles with that ride mount way back and off to the left on the bass. Hard to get used to.

I love that WFL kit, those mahogany shells are the best and the kit is very clean.
