1961 Ludwig drum set question Last viewed: 48 seconds ago

Loading...

Need some help.

My Dad recently passed away and I am trying to sell his drum set for my mom.

Its been stored in my grandma's basement since he was drafted to Vietnam. The stamp on the inside says 61 but some of the pieces might be 65-68?

Condition is good.

What's the asking price?

What other info do I need?

Thanks for your time

Link doesn't work./ Sorry about your father. Hopefully you weren't connived into selling them for nothing.

The cymbals might be worth something in itself.

Snare could be Brass, looks like small knob on muffler.

Which drum has the date stamp of 1961?

Better pictures would help.

Floor tom measurement? 14 x 14 ?

could be some gems there. only my opinion.

Sorry about your dad, Vietnam was not fun either.

Very nice drum kit. Classic and desirable wrap/finish. Close to $1,000 value if no cracks, etc.? That would be my guess. Then there is separate value to the snare, cymbals and other stands which I'm not an expert on.

Yes didn't notice the Rogers Hi Hat stand.

The double tom mount most likely added later, seems that it had the rail mount originally.

Hope someone here in your area can help you out.

My condolences on the passing of your dad..What are the Cymbals ? If they're vintage Zildjians or Paiste, then that in itself can bring in a significant amount. The drums, having the extra tom holder and diamond plate added would take away some value, but not a lot.. That would be one big and 4 small extra holes drilled into the bass drum shell, and that's never fun.. Like Larryz says, about $1000 for the drums, and then there's the value of the snare and cymbals.. You're looking at about $1600 altogether, more or less..Anyone offers you less then $1000 for everything, don't even bother with a reply.. Good luck with the sale, and hopefully a forum member would take them off your hands, if you decide to post them on the for sale section of the site..

The tom mounting hardware is not original for this time frame. I cannot tell from the picture but it appears that there are probably extra holes where the original tom hardware went. It may not seem to be a big deal, but to collectors (who are the ones who will buy this kit) some may turn there nose up to it. I say this with recent experience. I had a Ludwig kit with matching snare from 1958. The tom had a newer ludwig tom mount placed on it and my price went from $1500 down to $1000. It also appears that the tension rods are missing from one side of the bass drum. These can be found on ebay, but to get top price, people want them to be original. My best guess is that the kit was originally a four piece with the extra tom added later. At that point, a more modern tom holder was installed to accommodate both toms. Having said all of that, you probably have $1300-$1600 sitting there including cymbals. I wish you did not have to sell them. I hate that I am nitpicking your father's kit but I think you want the straight dope.

Lots of good information and I don't mind feedback good or bad. Honestly I would keep them if I knew my son would play but he's only 2. I have a box of extra parts with the tension rods in them.
