Mine was the base model of I think? three available models... My Tom mount was different to yours but lugs appear the same as yours .... I was always led to believe that the kit was "Star" made... but who knows??

Cheers

Great pic, John! Thanks!

Yeah, lugs are identical, but didn't a lot of different MIJs have those as well? My knowledge of MIJ isn't brilliant, which is why I come here! And all the bits and pieces I've found say Star to me. Or at least copies of Star. Kenwood's Kimberly seems the closest though, but I am very curious to find out more about Jason. Is that kit in the pic the Jason you mentioned?

Oh, and is that the grip from a golf club wedged in the bass?

Yes that is the Jason Kit... Well, we know that Star did make a Jason branded kit and there are some of those badges around the net.. but they are not the same as the pennant badge that was on mine.. The Sydney store "J Stanley Johnson" branded/badged a whole lot of imported instruments as Jason.. so don't know for certain if their version of the badge was issued worldwide by Star... Maybe they applied it inhouse..

( next pic confirms a pair of wire brushes )...

Cheers

John

Brushes, of course! Another cool pic.

In-house badging - so J Stanley Johnson rebadged them themselves? Was that a common practice? I really want to see the badge now, so I guess I'll have to keep looking.

Still not sure what to do with this kit though. I'll clean it up at least and see where I go from there.

Thanks John.

Here's a pic of the inside - there's a bit of paint removal to do!

Okay, had a bit of a go at getting the paint off. Must've been there a looooong time, as it's flaking away at the edges. I gently went round it with a pallet knife, and a whole heap came off with barely any effort. Underneath is a beautiful blue marine pearl! It kills me when, I'm guessing, some guy in a thrash band spray paints a perfectly good vintage kit to make it look "cooler" or "harder" or something. Madness. Utter madness. The guy was probably broke and a tin of spray paint is a lot cheaper than buying new wrap, so I can sorta see his reasoning. I don't agree with it however!

Anyway, here's a pic of my work in progress...

And anotheree. It's a nice wrap, apart from the bubbling near the lug holes. I thought at first it was blue marine, but it certainly looks more like blue diamond...

Beautiful wrap! I'd love to see the drum all put back together!
