Hah! Thanks for all the input fellas.
My dad is still with us, and he's given me plenty of other things with family heirloom value. My favorite being his old classic Remington 1100. That may go to one of my brothers, but will surely never be sold!
He hasn't played the drums in 30+ years, and the throne has just been sitting in the corner of my room, which is why I'm considering the sale. It's cool to look at, but unused and might better be appreciated by a real drummer (I play guitar!).
In general though, rather than placing a heavy sentimental value on objects - I prefer to live with the notion that you just have to spend time with your parents while they are still here and do the little things that make them happy. Collecting inordinate amounts of stuff never did anything for me because when I die, I know that material things will be the last thing on my mind.
So sometimes I just look at an object and see it for what it is - wood, metal, and vinyl. People are what's important. Ok, done with my philosophical rant and I do appreciate all you folks taking a moment to leave your thoughts here.
