Ludwig Standard finish question

Loading...

I'm contemplating on purchasing a kit. IMO all the Standard finishes are really cool, but tell me, which finishes are the most sought after/popular?

I would guess that the Blue Strata and Ruby Strata are the most desirable. All are cool and a four or five piece in original condition are selling between $700-$1000 these days.

The Avocado Strata is one of the more sought after finishes. Lemon Strata is pretty striking as well.

I have a Ruby Strata 12/13/16/22 kit I would sell you. It needs some cleaning, but should turn out well. Let me know if you want to come by and take a look.

Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
Ludwigs with paper labels from 1971-72

That seems like a great deal! Those strata finishes are very cool - I prefer them to the onyx look from Rogers or the tiger look from Slingerland.

Looks good John.

I think I have a block logo P-83 for you if you can't find on in your stash.

Blue and Ruby Strata seem to be the most common Standard Strata finishes by far. Gold Strata is probably next most common followed by Lemon, Bronze, and Avocado in roughly that order (bronze might actually be harder to find than Avocado). Now that is just based on personal experience and not any knowledge of actual production figures (assuming such figures exist, which they likely don't).

That's their rough order of availability but not necessarily their popularity or how much demand there is for each. Ruby and Blue were the most popular back in the day (which is why they are the most common today) and that may well still hold true today. Hard to top Lemon as the prettiest though (IMO).

Of course this list doesn't include the Mists (sparkle types) and the Astros (satin flame type)

Here are all the strati, just pick your favorite...

Wow! This could be the how high can you stack drums thread:-). Great pics. What is the wrap on the bottom snare? I like that.

Thanks.
