NO this is not about the album by Neil Young.

I just received a bunch of 60's LUdwig Parts that I got off of feebay, OOPS! I mean ebay. All of the parts are still useable but very heavily rusted. Need some advice on how to get as much off as possible.

Do I steel wool these parts??? Do I use a little wire dremel wheel to remove the rust. Do I use CLR on the chrome parts. Do I wet sand???

Need some advice. Below are pics of the parts and what they look like.

First is a 60's Ratchet style rail mount. It's pretty much complete just missing the L-arm.

8 Ludwig Bass Drum Claws. Again lost of rust.

8 Ludwig Tension rods. I can remove the rust from the threads with CLR which I've done before but is there anything I can do about the large pitting.

60's Spurs. I think the pics speak for themselves. These parts have been in water or something for them to rust this bad.

I would hate to see what the wood looked like...... That was certainly kept in the leaky basement.

YUP!!! Probably by the same type of people that would let an old classic car like a Road Runner, Charger, Cuda etc rot in a field some where.

Only paid $40.00 U.S. for all of it. And I new they were rusted. I wanted a challenge

I soak rusted parts overnight in a product called Evaporust. Sometimes, two sessions are necessary. Next, I apply Turtle Wax Rust Remover and Chrome Polish. The last step would be to apply a good Carnauba wax and hand polish. As for the pitting, there's nothing you can do. Other members will have their own methods including Dawn or even Coke. I'm sure these methods are quite valid. Just my two cents. Best of luck, sir!

I've heard great things about Evaporust but have never used it. Here, I would soak those in Ultra strength Dawn and water overnight. I would also apply polish after the rust was removed.
