1974 Gretsch score! Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Loading...

I just bought this kit last Friday. This is one of the cleanest kits I've ever come across, especially for 70's era Gretsch. This kit looks like it just came from the factory.

The good -

This kit was special ordered in 1974 with no tom mount of bass drum spurs. The owner then had the drum shop drill for Rogers Swivo hardware (this never happens with Gretsch. Usually Pearl) The mounted tom was ordered w/o a badge too. The owner wanted to decide where to put the badge and tom mount. The badge is with the kit but has never been drilled for it. The 22/13/16 kit sounds amazing too. The bass drum hoops that were sent with the kit were walnut with black inlay strips. The owner sent them back and got hoops with no inlay. He was definitely ahead of his time. I'd been looking for a 22/13/16 Gretsch kit for quite some time but I wanted black. This walnut kit was so clean I just couldn't pass it up.

The bad -

No matching snare. That's all I could come up with!

They are beautiful no doubt! Congrats on finding them. If you ever come across a snare with poor finish, I have the stain that matches that color. I just did a drum for my drum teacher. I did a thread on it,

A Drummer's Tradition purchase?

Yes. They were in the store a total of 10 hours. $1200 for the kit which I thought was a great price.

Check out the badge placement on the bass drum. It was ordered virgin. To correctly place the swivo mount they needed to rotate the shell over one panel.
