I've been working on this kit for a few months now and just got it completed today. Last year i found an all original '67 White Marine Pearl 14x18 bass drum. This size was not cataloged, but I've seen a few. The Jazzette kit shows up in the '67 catalog. But it is a 12x18 bass with no cymbal arm. The 14x18s have the conventional bass mounted cymbal mount. This drum just needed some tlc and some missing parts. No extra holes. Has original hoops/paint and inlays. Had to add a period correct batter head to complete it. The drum is stunning. My good buddy Surface hooked me up with the needed parts to complete the bass drum.

I then found a '69 8x12 on ebay that turned out to be a nice drum. But it has the clear maple interior with round knob muffler and i wanted a resacote interior with bat muffler. So i found a nice "64 8x12. It too is a very nice drum but just a shade more yellow than the bass.

I found the '67 Jazz Festival this past month. The kit came together this past weekend as a DFO forum friend came through for me with a very nice '65 14x14 floor tom. The drum arrived today and i snapped a few quick pics tonight. Couldn't decide which ride tom i liked best, so I took a pic with each.

I really like the sound of the 18. The whole kit sounds nice as it should. Always fun to put a bunch of orphans together like this. Period correct heads on all of the drums. I also included a before/after pic of the bass drum as well. Hope you enjoy.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Nice work Mike, a lovely kit. Tough one on the 12" tom. To the untrained eye the 69 fits better due to the less yellowing. But to the trained/obsessive eye the earlier drum is a better match era wise. At least you've got the choice, even if it's a choice that could drive you nutsHurting

Thanks gents!

Andrew- Appreciate your input there. I was torn between the two and that's why i kept both. The 64 is a little darker than the floor tom. The 69 is lighter but matches the bass and snare better. Both sound as good as the other. One day i'll fined a '67 and sell them both! lol.
