Blue Pearl is not Blue Pearl Last viewed: 2 hours ago

I need a snare drum for my 1965 blue oyster Pearl Ludwig set. I saw an ad for a blue pearl ludwig snare on Craigslist, so I was very excited. My dad and I went to look at it and it is a 6 lug SKY blue pearl, not blue oyster pearl. Ugh! I bought it anyway, but I'm begining to think I'll never find this drum!

Those are hard to come by. I saw one at Rockin Robins in Houston once and they wouldn't even give me a price, trade only. You might run across a six luger Pioneer someday that is affordable but a 8 lug jazz fest will be very expensive.

But sounds like you scored an nice snare, how about a pic of it please.

And, were you at the Chicago show on Sunday? I saw a young lady playing a kit and playing it very well I must add. I wondered if that was you.

Thank you!

Hi Julia!

Oyster Blue Pearl, like Ringo's Oyster Black Pearl, can be very expensive when it comes to snare drums! Granted, a 6-lug Pioneer won't be as expensive as an 8-lug Jazz Festival, but it will still set you back quite a bit! I did a quick check on eBay and found some Oyster Blue snare drums, Jazz Festival, and the pricing is sky high! It's the same seller all the time and the drums never sell. However, I did find a 6-lug Pioneer, but in a 6.5" depth, with a starting price of only $325. It's item number 131526344902. You may be interested. Your best bet is to keep checking eBay and Craigslist for your drum. Another good option is to use the "wanted" section of this forum. You never know what other members might have! Good luck!

Pricing update!

I did a check of "Sold" Ludwig Oyster Blue" on eBay and found 2 Jazz Festival snare drums that recently sold: May 13, for $750 BIN and March 29, for $835! How badly do you want a matching snare drum?!!

I was at the Chicago show on Sunday!

For me, the difference is between want and need. I don't need it, I but I want it. When I save enough and the right drum comes along it will be the right time...I was just hoping that today was the right time! :)

School is out for the summer, so my garage sale hunting will be in full swing. I know there is one out there somewhere!

I bet I saw you, too bad I am so shy, I should have said hello.

Good luck with your search! Garage sale are fun!

I have a Pioneer 6 lug sky blue pearl and it's sweet and gets the job done. Keep the faith and hopefully between all of us we can alert you when one shows up. Oh, and check Guitar Center online's used drum section.

ps. As a side note just curious, did you ever sell your Ludwig Standard drum kit..?

You're talking about a Jazz Festival. They can get very pricey. Why not use a Supra-phonic? You bought a Pioneer, cool drum in it's own right. Sell it and put the cash towards a Supra or Jazz Fest, but like I said -They're expensive snare drums especially in the wrap you're after.

I have a Supraphonic. Actually, that is the one that came with it, but I figured there would or should be a matching one. I like the look when they all match.

Larry, I did finally sell the Standard kit. Now I have to sell a Slingerland set in gold satin flame (I kind of had a satin flame crush last year!)

Julia, I get it, I really like kits with matching snare drums. That why when I put a bunch of orphans together I always do a snare with the kit. I found a nice super classic kit a few years ago in blue oyster pearl, it came with a supraphonic and even though its a great drum I still would love a matching blue oyster. And I have no problem with a pioneer either, sure jazz fest would be great but<

Again, good luck!

Thank you!
