The problem with rural America is wall marts and k- marts are like the sears in the big city, you go on a weekend and kids are thrilled at what's there , of course online make guitar center every were , but in the old days the kids would say what's a wall mart ! because they never got to go , so maybe it's good for that farmers kid that wants to try it out and cheap enough too....

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Well it's only entry level gear. Probably be good for the drum teachers, even though it'll be the usual 5-6 lessons then done. All those impulse buyers out there.
Gretsch Catalina Maple is NOT entry level gear, not by a long shot. I'm not sure anything Gretsch makes could be fairly called entry level. First Act is entry level, Gretsch Catalina series is professional gear in every respect, maybe not top of the line but it all towers above the true entry level gear Walmart used to sell. My question would be, who shopping at Walmart has $800 to drop on a drum set?

Walmart lay away and credit, look at as a emergency stop ,sometimes open 24 7 for sticks , heads , wires etc. you travel for a gig and at 10 pm at nite you left something at home I've played gigs were I left some of my equipment at home, you never know what you even a whole kit if yours get stolen ....the show must go on

Notice that some items Eg: Aquarian... Remo.. are shipped by Sam Ash or Music 123 etc.. How's that work.. looks like Wal Mart are acting as an online middle man ?

Yep in a nutshell. Usually(though not always) in their 40's, got a good job. Always thought about it. Saw the offer, not too cheap so they think they're buying rubbish, but not so expensive like a DW/Sonor/USA Custom/Ludwig Legacy etc. Boom thank you very much. Right in the middle there. Probably helped on by watching whiplash recently! lol
Maybe I'm being too cynical.

Walmart looks to be doing what Amazon has been doing now for years.
Those Ludwig extra thin resonant snare head prices on Walmart.com are a few dollars cheaper than A-zon, and free shipping for in store pick up. Those are the only snare side heads I buy, can't beat that short Ludwig collar!
Only snare side heads I use as well. Bought the last one the local music store had. Stated no plans to reorder. $17.00 told the guy I needed 5 more and Wallyworld had them at $14. Response was buy them there then. Guess I will have to.
