$2000 four piece drum set game!! Last viewed: 4 minutes ago

How about a little fun game here. Here is the scenario: You just sold everything in your collection and made great money (life is good). But, that money was used to pay for your kids' college tuition leaving you only $2000 left in drum monies. An old college buddy calls and has offered you an amazing opportunity to play a gig opening up for (insert your favorite heritage rock band here who now only play 2000 seaters). You jump at the chance but realize that you have now to purchase a drum set. To make things uniform for all who want to play this game, you are looking for a four piece vintage drum set with matching snare. What do you buy?

I would go with a 68 Ludwig in Mod Orange (14x22, 9x13, 5.5x14 and 16x16). I know the pristine ones would almost double my budget so these would only be in "good" shape.

Would be a 70's Ludwig 24" 13" 16" with a Supra or maybe Acro. Some DW 6000 series stands, a refurbed speedking and some old A's and K's. Job done thank you very much. Should be doable for for under $2000 (£1800)

One thing though, for cheaper results, an old 70's XP Rogers kit would do very well. Will need some serious anchoring though with those awful spur pipe things.

40's Slingerland Radio King WMP
60's Ludwig Downbeat Silver Spark
70's Ludwig Super Classic White Marine
60's Gretsch RB Champaigne Spark
70's Rogers Big R Black
90's Sonor Hilite (Red maple)
00's DW Collectors Broken Glass
00's DW Jazz Series Tangerine Glass
10's DW Collectors (Acrylic) Matt Black Wrap
10's PDP Concept Wood Hoop kit (Maple)

My second choice would be a Rogers xp8 in the tobacco burst finish. Could probably be had for under $2000 so I would want it to be mint!!!!!

Either a Slingerland or SlingerLeedy set from the mid 1960's that is non-restored because it is pristine. My size preferences are 14x20, 8x12, 14x14, matching Slingerland Artist or Leedy Shelly Manne 5x14 snare depending on which brand of drums. The wrap would be subject to what's availble. I would not want Silver Sparkle or any unwrapped drums. I'd probably have some left over money from that two grand for some nice 50's or 60's A Zildjians.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

A 1970's Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl Bowling ball wrap in 24-13-16 is what i would get my hands on, complete with Control Sound black dot heads all the way, and complete it with nice 6.5x14 Supra..

Classic Rock all the way !

Buy a set of Oaklawn, or LA Camco's and be done with it. Drum sound quality... guaranteed.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

id be screwed because my mint holly-wood with pies is one of, I'd never replace it for 2k

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Since you are being specific with a 4pc, which includes a matching snare, I'd go with either...

A: Rogers late 60's or early 70's Celebrity with matching Powertone or Dynasonic

B: Ludwig late 60's or early 70's Super Classic (or Deluxe Classic) with matching Jazz Festival

Either kit in pristine Champagne Sparkle will do just fine!

1969 Pearl Valencia kit with 1967 Ludwig Acrolite snare drum

Drum sizes - 20bd/8x12tom/1414floor tom 5x14 snare

$600 - leaves me with $1400 for shipping (if the drums have to be shipped to me), cymbals and hardware and cases.

Easily within the $2000 budget.

something like the kit pictured here but with the Acrolite snare instead of the Pearl.
