I've just put an Evans 360 hazy 3 mil snare side head onto my 60s solid maple shell snare ( yes I know - me and those snares!) and to me it just doesn't sound as good as the ambassador reso that I had on before. I'm just wondering if anyone thinks there is a difference between these heads. It just doesn't sound as full, it sounds thin and harsher, and the snare response isn't as good. Although I haven't really had time yet to really tweek and tune it. And the thing is it says it's 3 mil which is the same as the ambassador, but it really does feel very thin, just like a diplomat. The ambassador feels quite a bit thicker. The Evans does say 3 mil on the logo. After The guy that fixed the re-ring put the ambassador back on he had it tuned realy quite decent- quite full and warm but still sensitive.

I did the same thing and put the used Remo back on the 5.5" RadioKing. The Evans hazy 3 mil just didn't sound as good for some reason on that drum. I put the Evans reso head on my SoundKing and it sounds wonderful. So it's not the head just the application in my case.
Glenn.
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

Yes I think that's about right, I reckon it would sound pretty good on a metal snare.
