I used to run home if I was out so as not to miss a minute of it. What ever happened to all the great music shows that used to be on TV? You could hear so many great bands regularly. While we're heaping stuff into the nostalgia bin... I miss FM radio most of all. I used to fall asleep with the headphones on.John
I was more a fan of AM radio. The Radio Shack transistor radio and if you belonged the "battery club" you'd get a free battery after buying 9 (that's 9 volt batteries ...) Get an ear plug and you could listen on the bus ride to school...

The only shows I listened to on AM was Murray The K and his Submarine Race Watchers program and of course Dr. Demento!
"Fish heads, fish heads, very good to eat..." LOL

Fortunatley,we have the memories of this time period where so many missed out and nobody can ever take those memories away from us-very strong musical time period!I used to watch both those shows when i was on the road.Wayne
For me, nothing brings back the feeling of the 70's like listening to the Midnight Special... Hot summer nights with the windows open and "Listen to the Music" by the Doobie Brothers blasting out of the lousy speakers on the TV. Or CCR, Blondie, ELO, Cheap Trick, Bread, Gordon Lightfoot, America. So many bands of that era were showcased on that show. Remember Argent? War? And try to deny your eyes weren't glued to the set when the camera closed in on either Linda Ronstadt, Olivia Newton-John, Deborah Harry, Stevie Nicks, or the Wilson sisters. And when I bring up the music of the 70's to young musicians, all they have to say is, "Uhg, Disco!".
So why couldn't a show like that succeed today? Nowadays, a few lucky bands get to do their latest single at the end of Letterman or Fallon. Wouldn't there be an audience for an hour long show of just rock bands? I think so.

I agree with Mike... Miss those Midnight Specials and similar live performance shows... The Special was broadcast in Oz back then (usually a few weeks later than in US) .. real late night stuff while I was out gigging.. but I would usually set up the VCR to watch it when I got home. Turned me on to a few bands who were not all that big in OZ... Tom Petty, Cheap Trick, Chambers Bros, Rufus etc etc.. It was also a gauge of worldwide acceptance when a band from OZ made it onto that show.. as many did..
Cheers

By the way.. John Fogerty /Kenny Aronoff are on Letterman tomorrow night (Wed)..
Cheers
