hi-hat cymbals-tilted???

I just got back from a Dave Mason-Traffic Jam concert. The show was excellent Traffic hits for 50 min, then Dave Mason hits the rest of the nite.. Anyway the drummer has the hi-hat were the cymbals/cymbols,are tilted a bit.I saw the hihat after the house light went on and they are tilted.I don't know how it could be done with a straight shaft, but I gave it about a minutes thought then grooved out during the show.Anybody know that's done?? I wouldn't mind tilting mine if it's not expensive.

Any help will be appricated.Thanks,Matt

Could he have just had the standard tilter "tightened" all the way up?

Many of the new HH stands have the option to lean the whole stand back in towards you.. The 2 Legged Pearl 2000 is just one example..

I would bet it was what Mitch said... tilter full-in.

If this were still April 1, I'd suggest just putting a brick under the far leg of the high-hat... instant tilt! But seriously, that Gibraltar HH really looks neat. Reminds me of the remote, cable-driven HH's that were mounted on the right of the set, but still controlled by the left foot. If I ever found a reason to play the HH tilted, I'd probably look into that Gibraltar.

This raises an interesting ergonomic question: (I have never played one of the two leg tilt hi-hats,) Does the change in angle of the cymbals affect how you play? As in, how you move your hands, or your arms... that kind of thing. I'm so used to playing my hats set-up straight across (no angle except 'a touch' at the tilt screw) that it seems to me I'd have to adjust my angle of attack to play hats that were almost facing me. Does that make sense??? When I play a shuffle for instance, I tap the top of the hat on beat 1 and come down on the edge of the hats for beat 2, it's an up and down pumping motion with my hand. I would have to hold my hand at a different angle to accommodate the tilt in the hats.

Just thinking out loud...

I'm guessing that with a tilt on the stand the pedal is going to be further away.. something else to consider.. But there seems to be lots of guys using them...

I try to make the bottom cymbal not stick out under the top, as it chews on the stick. Set the tilter so the bottom cymbal is actually higher on the player's side for that purpose.
