Do you practice drums while driving? Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I do! (safely, at lights etc)

Can't use my right foot b/c of the gas/brake pedal for the bass drum, so I sort of use my right hand as a combined bass drum/hi-hat.

Have an automatic for a daily driver, which helps.

I have found that I am better at "car drumming" left-handed so to speak. I guess all of those years of jumping on my left-handed drummer's drum's when he got up to grab a beer etc must have gotten to me. ;)

It's actually inhibited my progress since I found my Ludwig kit because I think my brain is slightly wired to drum lefty.

anyway, anyone else practice drums in the car?

Surrounded by drummers here! (I am a guitarist.)

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I have drummed on steering wheels and just about everything else (try playing a washing machine, they sound great!) all of my life. I was always being accused of 'fidgeting' because I'm always tapping on something. I like to hear how things sound, tables, appliances, etc. I practice on couch pillows while I watch TV, and you should try playing on a kitchen counter with a set of forks, they ching in a really cool way.

I drum on everything all the time!

John

Too many great drums to list here!

My wife says my feet are going all night long while I sleep. I continually tap on thing all day everyday. People are constantly telling me to stop.

I once thought about placing a sticker in my back window with a pair of crossed drum sticks over a steering wheel saying" if you drum don`t drive",but i`d be breaking my own law all the time, lol.

I drive an automatic, so when I was first playing, I would play an 8th note ride on the padded left window sill to work on speed and endurance.

These days I'm trying to drill the spang-a-lang into my being, so it's all "Hey Swing the band Swing the band Swing the band" on the plastic dash insert.

Also when watching TV or movies, I have a pair of sticks and play patterns and rudiments on my knees.

I spend a lot of time listening to recordings of rehearsals while I'm driving but there's only so much 'practicing' (tapping) you can do in a manual....

Ha,When I first started drivng and had Wheels of Fire in the 8-track I would drum along with Ginger and many of my parents friends saw that and told my folks that my driving was very different and asked"is there anything wrong with your boy"But the best monment was hearing TOPSY for the first time. I had to pull over in the Louis Store parking lot so I wouldn't crash my car.I had goose bumps,, the volume was rolled to 10 .It was sheer bliss........................................................And I still play along with the good songs on Live 105......Vati
