Ludwig Drums - what model?

I just traded my Ludwig Zep Accent set today for this set. The guy I traded them with said he got the drums back in the mid-to-late 90's. Can anyone tell me what model drums they are and what year specifically they may be from?

Looks to be a Black/White badge, which would make these the Rocker or Rocker II series. Power toms would make me lean towards the Rocker II....Close up of the lugs would help narrow it down..

Its better to have people think you're an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove them wrong, unless you doubt yourself then speak away....

Ok, here is a pic of the badge. The color of the badge is actually black, white and silver. I don't see any olive color in there. Also, some of the drum heads are clear and say Ludwig Rockers on them.

Any idea what the kit sold for back in the day?

Those are Rocker II drums, the lugs were originally Classic, but were changed in 1988 to the kind you have. The Rocker II series was made from 1984-1993, so I would guess yours are the late 80's t mid 90's. As far as value when purchased, no idea...

Thanks a lot backbeatkeeper, now my sig is complete!

In terms of value, I was just looking for a ballpark idea of how much it would have sold for...not looking to hold you to it...

Actually Rocker II's have ALWAYS had those style lugs. The Rocker series originally had the classic lugs THEN switched to the Rocker II lugs which are the old Standard series lugs. Judging by the number of drums to the kit I'd say its late 80's since Ludwig expanded the line around then. These were probably about $1800 list when new. The shells are the same shells as Ludwig's classic shells...all maple, so it may be a step up from your Accent kit. The quality was much higher than you'd think for an "entry" level drum kit.

Thanks for the expanded info on my set LudwigDude!

Since they are all maple, I am thinking about tearing off the wrap, since it is in bad shape anyway, and just having them lacqured. I love the look of natural drums.

Please clarify for my sake. I'm somewhat weak in the area of Rocker drums. Did Ludwig use the 4 ply and 6 ply shells for these? The m/p/m thick ones? Or is this a later iteration of the Ludwig classic shell?

Again, thanks for the continued education.

It appears that my set is the Rocker Power Plus Series drums. It says in the catalog that they are 4 ply shells.

Here is a pic I found from the catalog from 1988 as shown on this website.

My set is the White Frost color, not the red one as shown in the pic and it does have a clear laquer finish inside which shows they were the "quality" ones to have. The Rocker II series is shown having cheap hardware and is apparently a budget set. The bass drum spurs on my set don't look anything like the Rocker II ones.

Here is all the info on the Rockers series, again, as provided on this site.

Even better! They are the Rocker series if they have clear interiors....no granitone pverspray to remove. They should be a four ply maple and poplar combo. And the sound is far above anything budget thats made today. Refinishing in a natural finish should be a lot easier then.
