Whats Mr Erskine up to?

Loading...

DW partner with Gretsch and Peter Erskine goes to TAMA. Hmmm. I never saw that one coming.

I would of thought with peters touch and style that he was made for Gretsch(or the other way around).

Not that there's anything wrong with TAMA.

"Why Tama? Why now?" asked Erskine in a recent Tama YouTube clip. "Well, I'm 60 years old and I realize that I want to play what I want to play. We A/B'd (my friends and I) Tama STAR with every other drum set, and it was no contest. Hands down the most musical sounding drums. Tama is a drum that will lead me to great places and this is where I want to go." FYI

In addition, I understand he has 2 Craviotto and 1 Gretsch USA Custom set at home...

Ah, this whole jumping around thing is just a game. They explain they're now playing the best drum, yadda yadda... Erksine is only 60? He looks older.

But he liked these...

4.5mm, 5ply Bubinga + 1 inner ply Cordia w/ 9mm Sound Focus Ring

All STAR shells are 4.5mm thick, including the bass drums and snare drums. These thinner shells allow the Bubinga material to vibrate more freely, which greatly enhances resonance. All STAR Bubinga shells feature 9mm thick Sound Focus Rings (SFR), which provide clear projection and sustain for a distinct sound, as well as reinforcement.

STAR drums feature a bearing edge shape with a peak that is rounder than TAMA's traditional bearing edge. This rounded peak provides more contact between the drumhead and shell, allowing vibration to travel from the drumhead to the shell more efficiently. Also, the peak position of the edge is 3.5mm from the shell's outer surface, which further improves contact between the drumhead and drum.

Never play it the same way once.

Here's the video. This Tama kit sounds like any other high end modern kit. I don't get it, didn't he just help dw create some new affordable jazz kit? It's all about the $.

With a $9,400.00 dollar price tag for a Bubinga kit, they aren't going to sell a whole lot of them. No matter how magical the sound. About the only 'high place' this kit is going to take you to is the poor house.

Excellent sounding drums...

John

Too many great drums to list here!
