Help identifying snare drum Last viewed: 38 minutes ago

I recently purchased a used set of cb 700 drums from a pawn shop for $100.00 they are to use and leave at a rehearsal space. I was only interested in toms n bass drum and really didn't pay attention to snare drum in store but when got home i was more thn happy to find the snare drum was a metal slingerland!

After looking at serial number (489025) and looking at vintage drum listing i am guessing it was manufactured somwhere between 1975 to 1985? was wondering if anyone could tell me the name of the snare, what is best way to clean the chrome finish? m really looking forward to refurbishing this bonus! Will attempt to post pictures but am new to this and struggling as it is. Thanks for any help i can get!

Show us a pic of the badge at the air hole vent.

I think it is a Sound King.

Experts will know for sure.

I'll guess it's a steel-shelled "Festival" model from around 1980. It has a "Rapid" strainer, not a "Zoomatic". Pretty nice bonus.

Just a point of information. The Festival model snare had a chrome over brass shell,up to the early 70's,.After that, the shell was changed to steel.

To add to my question: after taking snare drum apart to begin restoring it i realize it is a chrome over steel shell. The bottom part of drum has a flared point on each side of shell were the strainer lies. I have never seen any snare drum like this, the original strainer side head was very difficult to remove, one because it was original and two because of the flare points in the shell. Does this help anyone in identifying this drum? I will post pictures of the bortom of snare and the badge. Thanks in advance for any help anyone may provide.

Bottom of snare!

Those are what's called "crimped snare beds",and are normal on that model snare,as well as other metal shelled snares,of the period.

As said earlier it is the steel shell Festival model... The later 80's model had the same roll over edge and snare crimp as the Sound King.

My guess for yours is around 1979..

Nice little drum...

Cheers
