Vintage drum calendar thoughts Last viewed: 16 seconds ago

Looking for some input on a venture I have been rolling around for awhile...and all the positive as well as negative would be appreciated, so please state your mind.

Have been wanting for quite some time to make a professional calendar to sell (no profit, only cover costs) of vintage drum kits in pristine original condition....and possibly catalogued wrap and configuration (would be the cats MEOW)! Any make or model as long as vintage. To some vintage is 80's and some say 60's or earlier....thus needing the responses! Members or even someone you know that has a kit but possibly not a member YET :) can provide a professional photo to be judged and chosen by the members here (vote). One kit pictured per month with a little statement of the owner, and by the owner on how long they have owned it, restored it.etc... The back would have like a honorable mentioned kits with smaller photo and description.

Details could be worked out as it went, as I am sure things would pop up that wasn't considered in the beginning....

Your thoughts?

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Cost is gonna kill ya. Unless you have a way of doing it relatively cheap. I have done some with my own stuff, and they run between 12 and 15 bucks each. Using shutterfly or photobucket.

A great idea if you can make it work.

I think it's a great idea. I have several years worth classic motorcycle calendars. Maybe do pre-orders for the first year or two and make enough to buy inventory after that. There are places out there that will print and bind for not much or have a full sheet with a fold and staple.

I use to buy calendars from an western artist to use as give aways in my leather shop. I don't remember what I paid but it cheap enough for me to hand out free.

Thanks guys for the input! Much appreciated.

I know a lot of members here have a kit/kits that are in this category and looking to capture vintage drums in a way we have never seen them before...you have the catalogue out, and look at a certain month in the calander and boom it is identical. Difference is, today it looks in person as opposed to the not so well taken photos of the day. The only major issue is finding enough of this caliber which is driving me to do this. I have seen many nice clean kits on here, but have non period correct hardware (as the stands were not designed for what they are today). The thing I envision is ALL original factory kits. I know that it might be a tall order and would entail setting up the kits in this manner (if you don't already have a photo) and snapping some pictures. The background not important.

@Jeff....haha, I thought of racks when I read that.

@john...thanks, will be asking your advice!

Nevin,

Normally calendars are run months in advance of the New Year. Design, proofing and final layout can sometimes be time consuming. Getting all the right pictures and info takes time. Plus which to choose and use etc...... So depending on how soon you think you can this done you might want to look at 2016 for actual calendar production. This givesyou most of the year to collect pics and data, select, proof, color correct and approve layout. Plenty of time to get everything just the way you like it.. If your not happy with prices you get let me know. I can do the printing and finishing. We have the same digital equipment Shutterfly uses. Short run full color work like this is what these machines are designed for. To do short run full color work on a offset press it gets VERY expensive. Quality for the digital press is very good. In most cases just as good as quality offset. 9 times out of 10 the short run calendars you buy online are run on new digital equipment. Send me a message if you have any questions. :)
