I have all of mine in nice bags.Even the MIJ kit is stored in some sort of bag. Is this a bit of overkill,or normal? The old folks get a kick out of the different kits I use at the gigs I play at.At a outdoor show the yellowTrixons got a lot of attention. The idiot sound man put 2 mike on my bass drum alone,I made them pay for that little mistake boom BOOM boom .V

I use fiber cases in case of travels it protects drums better
I have bags for each of my drums, and also hard cases for some of them. The eight sets reside in my office/drum room on shelving. Here's one bank of shelves. There is another bank of shelves that is peeking at us from the left side of the photo on another wall of the room.
I have used Cadillac Sacks for all my drums.
Currently have most of my drums in soft bags. I don't transport to any extent that requires hard cases. I do have one kit in fiber cases, but that is because it is what they have been stored in since `81.
I did use hard cases when gigging in the past.
I don't like to leave my drums displayed. I love to show them off to friends, but openly displayed seems like asking for damage or theft.
My collection right now is 3 kits and 10 snares.
U-haul. Insured termperature controlled storage for now. Cases for long haul and in the car if not.

Man...even with insurance and temperature control...doesn't that make you nervous?!?
I store mine upstairs in my home where they are high and dry.I too use an assortment of bags and fiber cases.I used to store them in my basement-not a good idea, but they did survive relatively unscathed. My gigging set lives in my van in hard cases with very dark tinted windows.I`ve been very lucky for decades...

Remember, that the storage unit there just may be on the 2nd (or higher) floor. Just because it looks like ground floor, does not mean it is. I would think Dan would at least have it on a higher elevation - a smart guy he is.

I'm not sure what benefits a 2nd floor storage unit would hold as opposed to a floor unit. I have never had a storage unit in my life. I just don't trust other people...and I definitely would not trust tens of thousands of dollars of my drums to be secure in a storage unit. That's all I was saying.
So, Dan...where is this storage unit?!? I kid, of course...
