That's alot of money for a set of cymbals. Wow...I'd sure like to have them though.

One thing's for sure; if you pay that much for cymbals they're going to sound fabulous! I'd like to have them too. They'd look great riding atop and around a Rogers WMP BR Celebrity.

I am curious as to how things like cymbals can be authenticated?? 30 boxes of ziti is big paper, and I can't come up with a plausible way to totally authenticate that BR played them. Photographs of BR playing the cymbals will look like about every other set of cymbals made in the same period. Is there a serial number on Zildjan cymbals that I am not aware of? All of this will obviously come down to someone vouching for the authenticity, and 30k is a whole lot of trust in that vouching...........

Some endorser cymbals from Zildjian will have the drummer's initials stamped into them. I know there are some Gene Krupa cymbals with GK stamped in them. I'd think Buddy would have rated the same thing but I don't know for how long they did that. I didn't look at the auction to see whether these had that or not. Even if they did I suppose that could be faked as well. I'm not sure how you'd prove anything.

I handled some of Louie Bellson's cymbals on several occasions (setting up and tearing down his set for him) and there was nothing special about them as far as identifying them. I knew they were Louie's because he was playing them at the time but if they were now sold I'm not sure how you would prove that to anyone else.

DNA on them maybe ?

I find it hard to believe Buddy couldn`t pick out (select) his own cymbals though.

Tommy would know.

I bought a bunch of old 18" A.Zils some time back from a old timer in Jersey....for $75 each.....

Day I got them..I noticed one of the cymbals had BR stamped deeply into the metal below the Zil inscription!

Of course,I knew what I had....

A somewhat local pro drummer offered a 20,12,14,and snare ...all Cleve Rogers kit for it..so I took it!

Found out later ..someone had a GK 16" Zil cymbal...and got over $2K for it!..Maybe $2,500?

Wish I would have listed mine on eBay!

Truth be told... I'm not going to bid 'till the last second. I'm gonna SNIPE 'em! They are indeed "one of" Buddy's cymbal sets.. ( more on that later ) .. but as I have maintained, WAY TOO expensive. Buddy has been gone for 27 years now.. meaning .. a drummer born on the year of his death is now 27, and probably not all that familiar with Buddy. That has been what I have seen anyway. I ask a lot of younger drummers if they know who Buddy Rich is/was. The answer almost always is: Hmmmm... I think I've heard the name... point being:

The true collector of BR stuff... is us!, and not many, if any, are interested in ponying up $30,000.00 for a set of cymbals that Buddy owned/played. There was a much better chance of selling these if they were offered within 5 years of Buddy's passing. His star was still shining brightly and his memory lived on! Not so much 27 years later I'm afraid, although his influence on ALL drummers will never burn out. Truthfully, in my opinion only... the cymbal set would probably sell at the $4,000.00 to $5,000.00 range... and be worth it to a true Buddy fan. And...

Yeah Dan! They would look/sound GREAT with a nice set of 1965 Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity's! I happen to know of such a set too!

A friend of mine has a 16" Zildjian crash that he bought used at Franks drum Shop in Chicago around 1960. It is stamped "BD". He never thought anything about it until I pointed it out and we figured out what it was. Not sure what the market would be for a Barrett Deems cymbal (and it definitely is not for sale) but still pretty cool.
