Rogers re-wrap question

Loading...

Got this Rogers '69 Powertone at GC. It's been painted black, and the tom hardware has been changed out for Pearl hardware. I love the sound of it. It's a 22,12,16, I plan on gigging with it, I play in a classic rock/R&B band, we do stuff Like James Brown, Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, Hall & Oats, Blues Brothers, Bill Withers, Blood, Sweat, & Tears, you get the idea. Anyway I want to re-Wrap the kit and I want it to pop from the stage, I'm not looking for furniture, this is a players kit. 1st do you think I need to keep a historically correct wrap, I've looked at the catalogs from that Era? 2nd - any downside to just wrapping it with something I like?

I'm thinking Turquoise, or hot pink, or I like that psychedelic color Ludwig made, just something that pops and will get noticed but not something new like broken glass etc. Any suggestions for colors which will still evoke a bit of a vintage feel with a stunning yet bright standout color would be appreciated.

What's under the paint?

Might already be a cool Rogers finish under there.

it was stripped down to the wood and painted so just wood under the paint. Not sure can you strip painted wood to find a finish?

For 69 era, it would not have been a natural wood finish. Earlier, you could have had one of the very rare mahogany wood finishes, or for 67, Wildwood. But not in 69. Most likely, it was a wrap, and was stripped then painted.

Rewrap as you please, just know that an off color is not going to appeal as much to others, and could further reduce a resale value versus having a period correct rewrap. For a players kit, its always more money into it than will come out of it.

Unless you are planning aa full restoration, with the stripped shells and hardware change, can't see any downside to putting on a wrap you like. It's still a players kit. Selling later is only consideration, but with a players kit, if you don't go for fur, should not be much of a problem.

It`s your kit, and like you said, it´s a players kit that is not a full Rogers anymore, so i would make a gig kit right to my personal taste and needs:-)

Choose from the big variety of Delmar wraps or other companys that supply cool and good Drumwrap;-)

best regards and happy easter

Funny, I can relate to a lot of things in you're post. The most played out album on my ipod is "In the Jungle Groove" by JB. I have three Rogers kits and one Kent kit as do you. One of the Rogers kits had some abused shells (re wrapped in that cheap foil like wrap, home done stain job under the wrap etc. The way I look at it, it's not a museum piece so I'm doing it the way I want it. I turned it into a micro kit, using the 16" FT as the bass. I did it without adding any holes so I can revert it back to a normal kit I'm going to wrap it in either turquoise glass glitter or sparkle. (which Rogers didn't have) Go for what you want. You guys do a lot of Hall and Oates? Here's a pic of me and my neighbor and good friend Mickey Curry. Good luck with the restore, would like to see pics of the progress..Rich.

If you want a finish that "pops", I would suggest a Glass Glitter. I've attached some pictures of a 4.5x14 shell I wrapped in Turquoise Glass Glitter from Jammin' Sam. Uses the "tape method" to adhere the wrap to the shell, which is certainly a less expensive alternative to completely gluing the wrap. Glass glitters are pricey, but do "pop" outdoors and under stage lighting.
