WFL Buddy Rich Be Bop

Loading...

I have a line on a WFL Buddy Rich Be Bop snare in 3"x13" WMP with beer tap throw. I don't have a picture and I saw the drum several years ago and it was in players condition. A bit yellowed, a bit dingy chrome, don't remember if original snares were there. A young guy was playing it in an alternative rock band and pounding the be-geebees out of it. Wouldn't be surprised if it had a bent rim. I told him when he wanted to sell I'd be interested. I'm afraid he thinks it's worth a ton of money. It would need a total rehab. You don't see many and finding what others have sold for is tough. Without anymore information than what I have given what do you think I should offer? What things should I look out for? I'm needing all your input so I have something to go by when negotiating. I'm not a serious collector but like old drums. I buy to keep not resale, that's for my daughter at my estate sale.

Used and yellowed don't go for more than a few hundred (300-400) bucks from what I've seen. Check the small round lugs for stripping too.

Boscoe!

Here's a pic for you. This is out of my Buddy Rich snare drum collection. This is the EXACT drum you are inquring about. This particular specimen is a 1950. BEC is absolutely CORRECT on checking the lugs. These lugs are SOLID machined pieces with NO inserts/nut boxes.. so .. if one wasn't extremely careful when changing heads, it was real easy to STRIP out the lugs! In addition... over tensioning this drum was also very bad as the lug itself has a very SMALL "footprint". It was very easy to twist these out of square on the shell with too much tension as the lug is attached to the shell with just ONE screw. Anyway... have a look!

'Tis! 'Tis! Why you...I oughta... Truth be told, this snare was also used to record "Gorn Free". It was a beautiful thing!
