Is the Acrolite Legit?

Loading...

I'm in the market for a vintage Ludwig snare, and I'm torn between the Supraphonic and Acrolite. My local shop has both and I kinda prefer the sound of the Acro (less ping, warmer, fuller), but I don't see any pro drummers (and I'm talking bands like Tame Impala who obviously appreciate vintage gear) playing one. Everyone seems to go Supraphonic.

I know people will say "go with what sounds good to you," and I agree, but the fact that the Supra is the de facto has got me second guessing myself.

Does anyone know drummers who use the Acro live?

I own both and have used both live. The drummer from Jonas Sees In Color plays one live. We have done a few shows with them. Acro sounded great.

I play an acro live every time i go to my shed now since purdie gifted one to me. lol. Acro all the way bro. lol

Im just being funny well trying to anyway. Go with what feels and sounds good to you, not what everyone else plays.

The drummer for the Dap Kings records with an Acrolite. I like both Acros and Supras.

I love both acros and supras. I do prefer the acro though. ive seen lots of pros using them. my tired brain can't come up with any specifics right now though. I do know they get a lot of love in studio situations.

Acrolite's are a way of life...

Much like Avocado Strata, once you've been Acro'd, you'll never go back.

I like both & use both regularly.

I tend to use my Acro's with my Club Date kits & Supra's when I play bigger rooms.

You should just get BOTH!

I've been gigging regularly w/ a black galaxy [acrolite w/ the black sparkle finish] for the last yr and love it. Soundmen often comment on how good it sounds.

Oh... and Kenny Aranoff uses one. He's pretty good...

You do know it's the same drum, right? Different finish, 8 or 10 lugs.

2 door in red, 4 door in blue, same car.

If you're worried about being seen in the right company...
