Eric Delaney PLASTIC snare?? Seriously??

Loading...

Got a text from a friend of a friend about this, he's willing to give it away for about 30 euros. I'm going to see it tomorrow morning. Can't post the pics right now, but it looks just like this one:

Do you guys know anything about it?? Is it really plastic??

Those Brits never cease to amaze me :)

wouldn't doubt it. Ludwig made a plastic one as well in the late 70's...and with plastic lugs!!

Except for the throw-off and badge, it's identical to the Mastro snare, which claims to be made in the USA.

It's playable, in that it makes a snare noise, but it's not really very practical.

Mastro also had a Ringo Starr model (same but with Ringo autograph emblem) which is extremely collectable.

See these pop up sometimes on feebay , often still with the original box..

Does this mean they are not gigged with very much? ;)

Hoping that Ringo got in for his endorsement fee...

Cheers

Does Curotto have one of these yet?

I remember the red Mastro snare drum appearing in 60's Sears and Wards catalogs. I wanted one sooo badly, but my father citing them as "cheap, toy, imitation drums", refused.

It all turned out alright, & my personality wasn't warped by his attitude (the warping is due to other causes) when, instead of the Mastro, he agreed to a used set of WFL drums.

But, the Mastro photo brought back memories of my concocting all sorts of arguments for why I "needed" one of these drums.

That finish is cool looking.

It's certainly a toy by today's standards, but in the less aggressive drumming of the sixties, it could have been considered an entry level snare.

In looking more closely at the drum, I'm not sure the heads can be changed, at least not anything with a traditional rim. Hard to tell exactly what's going on, but the rods go through the head under the hoop. It's almost as if the head is part of the hoop. Perhaps Mastro offered replacements?

Well be careful Jon,

I have seen a couple up for sale with cracked batter side rims... Cracked straight through, (like cut with a knife)..

Cheers

I have seen the Mastro for sale on eBay and the rim seems to be intentionally split. However, the one in this photo is not split.
