Info on Vintage Ludwig Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Hi everyone,

I'm new here, so please forgive me if I'm missing anything. I've been playing drums on and off for about 13 years. I recently bought this vintage mod orange Ludwig kit and was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it based on these photos. I don't know much about Ludwig drums or vintage kits in general. It's a 24" bass drum with 13" and 16" toms. I looked up the serial numbers and the kit dates 1969-70. The Supraphonic snare dates 1965. Just curious if any of you know anything about this that I don't. Thanks!

Hello. You can do a search on this site for the word "orange" and yuo're sure to find some prior discussion on this wrap. From my limited knowledge it's Mod Orange and rather desirable. Beauty! that'll be $40 consulting fee. Just kidding...

(p.s. Ploughman's temp rising?...lol :) )

Hey, I noticed the bass drum looks like it has a B&O badge where the yon and FT are Keystone badges. Where did you pick this up?

I saw that too.It may be a pieced together kit.The bass has been altered. It originally had a consolette rail mount, hence the 4 extra holes, and a non original tom mount installed later.

Mod orange has streaks of purple in it,so yours is badly faded I'm afraid ,as they have turned white.

The B/O badge drum should be clear on the interior, and a 3 ply maple/poplar/maple shell with re rings.

The toms can be either white resocoat or clear interior,3 ply with re rings.

That snare is not a supraphonic. Its an Acrolite, which has the same shell as a supra, just no chrome plating, and generally 8 lugs to the supras 10.The sound is similar, king of like same church, different pew.

Hey Joe. You're right about that. I bought this at a buy/sell/trade guitar shop with a few drum things here and there. The owner told me that they often pieced together parts of kits back then (69-70). So, I'm guessing the toms are from 1969 while the bass drum was manufactured in 1970. Not sure though.

Thanks for that info, Steve! I could tell the bass drum was altered pretty heavily and that the kit generally has a lot of wear and tear on it. Awesome to hear about the interior. Thanks again.

Hey Steve,

Any idea of what the name of the model on this kit this might be? Thanks again for all the helpful info!
