1959 Slingerland Kit - Chicago Badges Last viewed: 9 hours ago

I'm interested in sending my beloved Vintage Slingerland Drums to a good home. They are Chicago Black & Gold Badge date stamp inside small Tom says Jan 15 1959. I don't know if these are actually "Radio Kings" or not, there is nothing to identify them as such.

9x13 Tom, 16x16 Floor Tom, 5 1/2x14 Snare w/clam shell strainer. 14x22 Bass. Woodblock/Cowbell Assembly, All hardware, sticks, brushes, & CYMBALS!

The set was purchased "used" for me by my dad in 1964. The only "after market" work that has been done is someone drilled 3 small holes in the Bass Drum to mount an extra tom. I have removed the hardware, but the holes are there. They can be plugged, or you can leave the screws in the holes. I know it damages the value of the drum, but it is very minor. The Hi-Hat is a Ludwig Spur-Lok. There isn't much I can tell you that isn't in the picture. (I have others, and can provide extreme close-ups, by e-mail, it is too complicated to upload pictures on this site...everything is always TOO BIG!!!) The cymbals are Avedis Zildjian 20" Rock Ride, 14" Avedis Zildjian Hi- Hats, additional 14" Paiste (probably a Hi-Hat) & 16" Sizzle Zilco by Azco Canada. Everything included, I'm looking for serious offers, but there is lots of room for negotiation...don't be afraid to ask or make offers. I'm in the Tampa, FL area.

These drums have been well used, probably slightly abused (ask about their "story") and were set up in one place for over 25 years before returning to my possession. I look forward to answering any questions or inquiries.

Hot damn that is a fine looking set of drums. I'd be interested in hearing your ballpark on those (PM if you don't want to post).

Hey JohnnyV. I don't think you'll find a shortage of people that want that kit, but moving a $2500 kit is hard these days. I'm not saying they aren't worth it, but it seems like the only things are selling are kits under $750. It's sad. I'm in St. Pete and if you want me to come over and take the kit off your hands for $750, I'm in! LOL. Good luck with the sale.

Hey, Shawn,

Thanks for the reply. Point taken re: price. I was serious that there is a lot of room for negotiation. With or without cymbals, etc. Hope someone will at least make contact to discuss it.

Nice kit, but I'm having a difficult time selling my 60's Slingerland kit for $550. It's a red glass glitter, like yours, minus the cymbals and hardware. I don't know what it is about Slingerland drums that don't appeal to many vintage guys. You would think they would be more sought after, considering they are no longer made and some of the biggest jazz drummers in history played them. To me, they sound as good as vintage Ludwig, Rogers or Gretsch kits, but they don't hold there value as well, go figure.

What a nice Christmas present these Beautiful 1959 Slingys would make for the Little Drummer Boy in your household!

Why not make an offer! You might be surprised!

That is a great looking kit. Looks like you did a great job restoring it. It is Christmas so if anyone was wondering "what should I get tnsquint for Christmas?", (and I know many of you were wondering just that) this would be as nice a candidate as any.
