Pleased to make your acquaintance.

Wow... You've got a veritable time capsule there. Do you play?

Beautiful! So whats next? I hope you don't want to sell your dads drums. If you don't play, think about learning. I have a snare like that and its called a down beat snare, mine is in wmp. Really nice kit, thanks for sharing, love the gold sparkle!

All of the drums are champagne sparkle, the bass drum size is a 14x22" not a 15x22" the shop that determined the year maybe inside the shells they saw a stamped date? Have you removed any of the heads and looked inside yourself?

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

"Special" doesn't come close.

This is an amazing set of drums of which you should not let go of until someone you love deserves them.

FYI... If you must sell, in all original condition, these arent worth less than 2k-2.5k for the drums alone. Do not separate!!! People will offer crazy $ for the floor tom alone. Don't do it. Same goes for the snare drum.

Best,

Aaron

Anything special? YES..very special. You have found the "Corvette in a barn". The color and sizes are very desirable for today's collector and jazz player....we're all looking for 3 ply re-ring drums from the 50's and 60's and the fact that they are vintage Luddy's makes your kit that much sweeter. Hard to tell from the pics but I didn't detect any fade in the champagne and only some minor surface damage to the hoops and inlay. Looking at the pics and the cases, it looks like the drums were well cared for and properly stored so I doubt that there would be any structural damage or ply separation. Time to disassemble the drums for inspection, cleaning and possible repair and you came to the right place to get help if you need it. The icing on the cake would be a Zildjian stamp on the cymbals. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

+1 to the statement above.

Welcome to the forum. I hope you or someone in your family plays, so they can enjoy these drums. I love reading these types of stories, because it means there are still kits tucked away just waiting to see the light of day.

It looks like they just need a little detailing to shine like brand new. As already mentioned, you have come to the right place. If and when you decide to clean them up, please search the forum for the proper way. What you use and how you do it, is very important and can significantly devalue a multi-$1000 kit. One piece of advice, NO STEEL WOOL. CryBaby I can't stress this enough. The bass drum hoops are an easy fix, if you choose.

It's a toss up, because some collectors like to keep the kit 100% original by leaving the wear marks. In a way, they tell a story about the life of the kit. For example, "Man! That scratch reminds me of the time our band was opening for The Beach Boys. A fan ran onto the stage, kicked my floor tom and it rolled off the stage." Devastating at the time, but that's what you call "mojo" now.

Just curious, did the local music store offer you anything for it?

Please keep us updated on your plans. Do you have any pictures of your Dad playing the kit? I love seeing these shots.
