Bowtie Supraphonic

At first, I taught I've mistakenly bought an Acrolite. But after doin' some research, it was undoubtfully a Supraphonic. It is said that in 1984, when the Ludwig factory were moving from Chicago, they ran out of imperial lugs and decided to use the bowtie lugs instead.

Well, I removed the tone control knob, cuz I'll be using moongels instead. Made sure the drum head logo is at 12 o'clock, strainer at 9 o'clock and the butt plate at 3 o'clock.

However I need to get new snare wires. The buzzing won't stop no matter how much I try to balance the number of stands, just couldn't get them to tension equally. I'm looking forward to get meself them puresound brass blasters.

ive got one of these. many of them have the large Monroe style badge with Chicago on them. some even have no serial number. mine has the large keystone badge mounted on a shell that was clearly meant for a b/o badge. much of the keystone badge is under the hoop.

Cool, dude. I nearly thought I've bought an acrolite. I really like the ring when I hit it hard. Yeah, the badge is way too high, looks like they did it in a rush.

the holes for the badge were most likely already punched and were in place for the earlier blue olive badge. with the b/o badge, it would have been below the hoops. all this is a transitional thing. mine was actually listed as an acrolite when I found it! I knew what it was though..

Here's mine. I've owned this snare for close to 30yrs. Bought it brand new in the early 80's from one of the music stores on 48th street in NYC (Alex Music I think from what I remember). Still my main snare, still in great condition, no pitting or anything.

Wow, nice job on cleaning up the chrome. It looked pitted in the first picture.

I just acquired a Supraphonic, while shopping Craig's List for an Acro. Guy had a badly pitted Supra for Acro price, so I went for it.

It actually had some pitting on the bearing edge, which I smoothed down with sandpaper.

Haven't decided what to do with it, finish-wise. I like the look of dyed anodized, but I would have to get the rest of the chrome plating off and then prep the surface.
