Rewrap vs. Leaving It Alone Last viewed: 3 minutes ago

Thanks for chiming in on this one Tim.She was a road warrior(warm to cold temps) for 12 yrs. and the only one that split on the set, luck of the draw i suppose...

The wrap is as tight as a drum(excuse the pun), on both sides of the crack so no issues there. Thanks so much for your thoughts on repair and i agree to let her be.I`ve seen folks try glue over the crack and just seems to make it even more visable.Once more-many thanks to you Tim.

Thanks for posting pictures. What a shame that tom has a crack. :(Is the wrap loose on either side of the crack (flexible and away from the shell)? If so, you might be able to get a syringe and some contact cement style glue. Carefully inject some glue under the wrap and use a band type clamp to slowly press the wrap against the shell. To make sure the wrap is not too brittle, it might be good to slightly warm up the shell.I'd let others chime in on my idea before you implement, but I vote to NOT re-wrap the shell.-Tim

Agree with others. Looks just fine the way it is.

Good point VistaBob-i agree with the character on a vintage(old) tom.Inspite of her scar she`ll still ring out loud and clear!Love the Original Petina that have been unmolested thought... and that makes me want to keep her just the way she is.Thanks for your thoughts and reply-much appreciated.

From VistaBob

as for the trivia game i also guessed the floor tom as rewrap.those original wraps are so VIVID in color. the new wraps just dont have the same POP....as for the Cracked Wrap....leave it be. Its not as bad as it could be. ive seen WAY worse. i probably wouldnt even glue it. its original. its character.similar in the guitar world. people like the guitars that have Original Petina and have been "unmolested"."Whisper words of wisdom, let it be...":2Cents:

Hi Glenn, thanks for the tip and link on Jack Layton and i`ll follow thro`on it and see what he has to say. Most people are saying' let it be' and i`m thinking the same but i`ll check him out.

Also much thanks to you and John for all the labour intensive work on the Rogers tag. I know we don`t totally understand the process but we do know the time involved on this project.Take your time and hope you both enjoy the challenge. You guys are the best!!!

Wayne maybe send pics to pro drum guy Jack Layton. He might be able to fix it and or suggest the best route. He's not cheap but well worth the investment to keep the original wrap in tact.

In my case it was just a matter of adding a floor tom to a original 3 pc set to make it a four piece. i acquired a black lacquer 14 x 14 and this wrap from precision drum was a close of a match as i could get,

sleep on for a bit wayne i am sure you will make a decision u will be happy with in the end

Beautiful match on your drums Ircollura and i checked out the Bermuda Sand wrap and it was pricey. It`s as close to Champagne Sparkle as you can come and i think the Champagne Sparkle has been discontinued for whatever reason from my research on the net. Seeing as it`s a sought after colour i don`t understand there marketing here.Any idea`s as to why it`s been discontinued would be appreciated. Thanks

I believe there was an element in the make up of the colour that was either highly flammable or highly toxic to make. I'm not sure which as much as I know that it's somehow illegal to make the stuff today.

not sure why they don't make it. like i said if i am not mistaken 10 years ago i order a pre cut sheet 14 x 14 and a small can of fast bond at that time it was under 60.00 and did my own re-wrap. Thank god i did if this stuff isn't available.

Maybe we need to start a thread on all the sources of material available if one hasnt alreadty been dicussed.

Ircollura-glad you did the rewrap when you did 10 yrs. ago as it`s looking like it`s been discontinued.I`m going to look a little further into this and i`m about to post a new thread on this subject and please chime in with your thoughts.Like you said-maybe we can find some material sources here.Thanks.
