Beware of Mister Baker. is a great movie about the one and only Ginger Baker, I have always been a huge fan of Gingers, What I like the most about the film is The way it illustrates the Life and times of Mr Baker, His life and his playing are completely different, Ginger lived his life as only he knew how. take a look at the youtube clip watch the film if you get a chance. I still love the story when Bonham and Baker where at a local pub getting snoggered, Baker stated to Bonham after about the tenth time he was the worlds greatest drummer after many bevies Bonham when to Jimmy Pages House, Page and Plant are in the Studio taping some loops, Bonham kicks the studio door open totally ticked off, He grabs two pairs of drum sticks gets behind the kit and starts laying into the drums, Plant and Page have this bewildered look on both their faces, as Bonham is going at it, Plant tells Page to record Bonhams drum solo, It was to become the song four sticks, After Bonham was through with the drum solo he yelled lets see that Bloody sod Baker do f'ing that one !!! Saw the movie on TV the other night. It is pretty cool.
I think it's safe to say who inspired Bonham. When you listen to some of Baker's older recordings, you can hear little bits of Bonham poking through and visa-versa.
Their snares sound almost identical.

I watched it last night, and for me it was kind of sad. Baker (and cream) have been my inspiration all my life, seeing how Baker lived was really unfortunate. NO offense to him, I think he was mentally ill. Be it because of the drugs, the loss of his father early in life, his inability to handle money and success is what led to being broke. Buying 30 arabian horses because you liked horses was just plain crazy. when he introduced his son to herorin at age 14, I wish I missed that part completely. Even Clapton was careful in the interview of what to say, he stopped short of saying how he realy felt, but did say he never got to know Ginger off stage that well. (because he was scared to death of him) I think Baker should have taken some OCD meds rather than what he was using. He was still no doubt one of the greatest.

I concur. Baker was a train wreck in his personal life. I learned this lesson along time ago about artist/personalities their professional persona and personal life can be completely different. Baker is that for sure. Like you I hated the way Baker belittled his sons playing and his introducing heroin too his son also. I've always had a bad taste too me people that use heavy drugs. Baker did not have hardly any rock drummer friends due to Baker attitude. Bonham sure didn't care for him.

Your ears and mine are hearing a completely different sound. Bonham and Bakers snare drums sound not one bit alike to me, they both used different snare drums and sizes ! ??
Baker used a Leedy Broadway maple 3 ply 6.5x14.He also used a surpa and a supersensitive ,both 5x14,with Cream
In his drum video while he was still with Ludwig,,he was using a bronze supra 5x14.
Over the years,I've seen him using supras with his 70's blue oyster kit and a blue vistalite.
In that vid,he's using what looks to be a wood shelled DW,which is a way different animal than an LM 402.
Think his tuning seems a bit lower and Bonzos.If you watch his drum vid,he does a thing on tuning,and his snare sounds pretty lose to me,when he's playing rudements and not back beats.
He also uses thinner sticks,and dosen't hit as hard as JB.
Let your ears decide,but to me,the sound is different from Baker to Bonzo.
