1950's LEEDY & LUDWIG DRUM KIT

http://springfield.craigslist.org/msg/3967017202.html

Drummers. . ..own a piece of percussion history! No, this kit is not for everybody but is for those of us that appreciate the beautiful craftsmanship and sound from decades ago. Up for sale here is my vintage and fully restored 1951 - 1952 Leedy & Ludwig kit. Leedy & Ludwig were merged together for just 3 years so there aren't many kits left. This kit includes everything that you see here:

Toms - 8"x12" and 9"x13" rack toms with diamond plates, a 10"x14" Tom/snare plus 16"x16" floor tom

Kicks - 14"x20" and 14"x22", both with rail consolettes

Snare - 5"x14" with both single flange hoops with clips and triple flanged hoops (not shown but included)

Vintage Leedy XL kick pedal and a Leedy XL hit stand, both from the 1950's

3 rare and expensive vintage Ludwig flat base cymbal stands

Vintage Leedy & Ludwig wood block holder and a vintage Leedy wood block

Vintage early 1960's Zildjian cymbals: a 22" sizzle ride, an 18" crash and 14" hihats

2 vintage Leedy 10" lowboy style cymbals from the 1940's - 1950's

Vintage Leedy 10" splash cymbal

2 vintage snare stands - one Leedy & Ludwig and one Leedy

Two vintage kick mufflers - one Leedy & Ludwig and one Leedy

One vintage Leedy rim mount cymbal holder

Two pair of vintage Leedy rim mount spurs

One pair of vintage Leedy & Ludwig drum sticks

See a much larger image at: http://www.lerschphoto.com/Craigslist/Leedy_Ludwig.jpg

All drums have the original Leedy & Ludwig badges and lugs. I will NOT separate any items and no lowball offers please. Asking price for this beautiful vintage set including the valuable vintage Zildjians is $2300. If you have your own cymbals and stands, I will sell the kit minus the Zildjian cymbals and the flat base stands for just $1900. Call Jim at 417-724-8637 in Nixa.

My buddy called me about these a few weeks back. He said he would go take a look for me and report if interested. He lives very close (within 30 miles). If this guy wont ship, can get them to you.

Thanx for the offer Nevin! (If) I hear back from the guy, I may be taking you up on your offer. And not to worry, I will hook you up if you get to do me the favor.

Fingers crossed....

John....hope they respond. My buddy is up on percussion, but not so much on the vintage side per say. If needed, I can make the trip....never know what else is stashed away in a closet!

Nevin,

I heard back from the guy... two nasty responses back to back. In the first one, he made it clear he was not going to ship the kit. I responded back that I had a friend locally who would handle all that for me. His response was that he thought I was an Internet scammer.

I initially offered the guy his full asking price, so it wasn't like he was P.O.ed that I lowballed him. He was just a little nasty and suspicious right out of the box. I don't blame him really, there -are- a lot of A-holes out there. However, he could have asked me to further identify myself, or to provide him some feedback from past transactions with others, which I would have been happy to do, but he chose to succumb to his own paranoia and give me the bum's rush. I simply told him I was no longer interested in purchasing his drums. I wished him luck and put the whole thing out of my mind. I spent the $ on a script badge, three tom, double bass drum, w/Dynasonic, Rogers kit in Blue Onyx. My gain, his loss!

If anybody wants the Leedy/Ludwig's, they are still available.

Thanks again for the generous offer Nevin. It's the thought that counts and I appreciate your offer of help. It -is- a really nice kit, sorry I couldn't 'connect' with this guy. Bit of a jerk if you ask me. Seller with an attitude... who needs that?

Best of luck to whoever gets them!

John

Does anyone else here think the photo of this kit is air-brushed, photo-shopped, made to look as sweet as some heavenly dream from the land of Oz?

If you offered the guy asking price and he acted like you said I'd be suspicious of him instead of vice versa. Don't list the friggen kit for sale if you don't want to sell it. Hmph.
